I'm a huge Paul Simon fan and just heard a song from it on BWW radio. Can anyone give me any info about it? Thanks!

Paul Simon's score for THE CAPEMAN has some of his best music and lyrics. Mr. Simon's score was nominated for a Tony and probably would have won had it not been the year of RAGTIME. The cast was uniformally good and the set design (Bob Crowley) and lighting (Natasha Katz) were haunting. But the book by Nobel Prize winning poet Derek Walcott was full of heavy-handed symbolism and the staging by Mark Morris (with uncredited work by Jerry Zaks) was pedantic at best. Mr. Simon insisted on Walcott and ignored pleas from the producers to bring in a more seasoned musical theatre writer. Maybe someday a regional theatre will take a new look at the show and give it another chance. The story and the music deserve it but it needs a new writer and a director with a different vision.

Thank you so much. I would love to see it reworked!
