I just finished listening to the London recording. It reminds me of Moulin Rouge. I don't think I like it, but of course I won't judge from the CD. Any thoughts on this anyone?

Personally I like the show. For those of you who can get to a copy of the CD (or listen on Broadway Radio), the better tracks are:

Like an Eagle
Shakalaka Baby
Only Love
How Many Stars
The Journey Home

Only Love is such a powerful song in performance. When I saw it in previews it was Act 1 finale, and it made such an amazing finale. I think they changed it, I can't be sure. When it was sung, it absolutely blew me away. I have never heard a performance that will match the emotion contained in her voice. The CD doesn't do it justice.

As for the score itself, it has a very urban Indian sound.

I don't get Andrew Lloyd Webber's connection this thing... did he just lend his name to it to make it seem more legit for Broadway?

Call it a regime change...

Ben,

ALW produced Bombay Dreams and was with the project from the word go, in fact it's based on an idea he came up with.

As for it not lasting much longer in the West End, it's almost into its second year now and is hardly ever at TKTS or heavily discounted. The show is a hit.
