If Democrats were smart, they would try to convince Biden to step down even though he made this announcement. Convince Governor Newsom to run who is just as progressive but much younger and dynamic than Biden. Newsom-Harris ticket is the way to go if I ran the Democratic party. No matter how much you try to sugar coat, Biden will be 82 and IMO has seen better days.

If Republican voters were smart (I doubt they are), they would dump Trump and make DeSantis their nominee. DeSantis then picks Nikki Haley for VP and then this country has a real choice between a new generation of leaders.

I think it could actually be exciting to watch debates if these were the two tickets. Sadly, we will probably be stuck with two grumpy old men running against each other when so much of the country is begging for new leadership.

I love Joey Robinette deeply, he’s done so much good for the country. And like 80% of Dems polled wanted someone else to run simply due to age, which isn’t a personal attack on him. Of course I will vote for him, selfishly I just wanted him to enjoy his older years being with his lovely family at his beach house, relaxing.

I would have loved to see a Newsom/Booker ticket, both such smart men.

I think people have lost confidence in Sociopath Rapist and will vote for Meatball Ron, which makes me nervous.

The ad where DeSantis is kissing Dump's ass is something hilarious and worth playing over and over again if you want to make DeSantis look ridiculous.

I'm so sorry that you're about to be just f*cking besieged down there with DeSantis 2024 ads. His slogan is the worst I've ever heard:

MAKE AMERICA FLORIDA

I died laughing. For like a full ten minutes.

Funny, I thought you were not going to respond to any of my posts that were directed at you (per your post in Diane Feinstein thread). Since you are the OP and I am the first poster in this thread to mention age, I guess you are responding to me. Let me make this real clear for you, Ronald Reagan's age and mental acuity was questioned. Turns out they should have questioned it. John McCain's age and fitness to be POTUS was brought up when he ran against Obama. In other words, Biden is not the only one there has been concern with their fitness.

Count me in with the people who would wish he wasn't running. Ageism, while inappropriate, is a factor in voters minds. Joe is a perfect target. He looks old for his age. There's no denying his age will cost him votes, not mine, but certainly others. I can't believe everyone talks about Dump's candidacy, won't he be in and out of a lot of courts again? I've already had several two time voting assholes say they won't vote if he is on the ticket.

DeSantis isn't good at debates. He'll easily lose the GOP nomination and his tricks in Florida are pissing off the GOP. He'll disappear in 4-5 years once he loses his Florida re-election.

I hate the thought of going through Trump vs. Biden again. That was torture, but if Trump is the favorite for the GOP nomination, Biden is the best to handle it and likely win reelection. Come 2028 is when both parties need to have the younger folks step up and take over. Newson, Buttigieg, Harris, Katie Hobbs, Josh Green all are at my top. The GOP needs to dig out of the MTG, Boebert, Huckabee Sanders mess and get behind people like Chris Sununu, Glenn Youngkin & Tim Scott.

Nope. He isn't going anywhere. You clearly don't read how much people love him all over the place. He will easily win the nomination if he runs, Trump is too much of a wildcard now. He will easily win Florida every single time, that you think Florida will EVER be purple or blue is insane.

The Desantis campaign is over before it started. He's shedding donors and was embarassed during his recent trip to the capitol where he returned with 0 endorsements. His war with Disney is making him look like a fool. He has 0 charisma and Trump has been playing him like a fiddle. He's passing laws that are unpopular in his own state. He's become a joke.

I'm more worried that Trump will implode and someone who could actually win an general election might get the nomination.

DeSantis loses momentum before his campaign has even started

Yeah, one article 21 months before the election doesn't mean all that much. He'll course correct. I hope Rapist gets the nomination of course, because we will breeze towards re-election but I doubt the GOP in DC wants that and will truly do anything to make him NOT their nominee.

DeSantis vs. Trump would be a fun debate to watch. Trump, more or less, got DeSantis elected in Florida. Now both are going at each other and throwing each other under the bus. Throw in Mike Pence on the debates and it would be like three high school girls fighting with each other.  Nikki Haley is only running to try to be the winner's VP.

Nimarata Haley. I see no reason to afford her the choice of going by her middle name when the GOP is all about denying others the choice to use their preferred names and pronouns.

It's a lot more than one article. He doesn't have the political skill. He makes Trump look like a genius.

And you would think the GOP in DC wouldn't want Trump as the nominee but they sure are lining up to endorse him. Including almost the entire Florida delegation.

This sorry, sloppy, and depressing state of affairs has proven beyond a doubt that the DNC has done absolutely nothing to groom the next generation of Democratic leadership.

I will agree with that. It's the older generation's job to do such things. Where are our people under 50 running for the top seats? It's embarrassing. Not as embarrassing as anything the GOP does, but still. Dag, man.

Sometimes you have to blame the voters in both parties. In 2020, Democrats had candidates for POTUS that were very young (Mayor Pete) and several others who were in their 50's. Who were the two top vote getters? The answer is two old white men, Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders. The Republican voters in 2024 will have younger candidates like DeSantis (44) and Haley (51) running but willing to bet they will vote for 78-year-old Trump. People need to stop complaining about their choices when they have the power to change it.

Look at people in power in the Senate and the House. Majority and minority leader are two old men, Schumer in his 70's and McConnell in his 80's. Pelosi was Speaker for years and is currently 83. The current speaker (McCarthy) is a "spring chicken" in comparison to them, he is 58.

Can a young leader rise to power in this country, the answer is yes because Obama and Bill Clinton did it.  Hopefully, this will happen again in the near future. Note** Just letting you know if "Highland Guy" reads this, he will call me "ageists".
