Welp. Stable Mabel is out of commission again. Fell and now is unable to fulfill her duties as senator. Not like she makes any of her own decisions at this point anyway. Appointment of judges is halted and if God forbid she is replaced the GOP won't allow Democrats to fill her seat on the judiciary panel. Another great job brought to you by the US gerontocracy.

Does not look like McConnell is doing much better with his own health issues. Feinstein, McConnell and Fetterman need to step down and give their states somebody who can do the job.

I don't get the comparison between someone like Fetterman who has health problems, but is clearly able to continue doing his job as Junior Senator of his state and two high ranking senators who are LITERALLY on death's door. Expecting no Senator to encounter health problems is a foolish expectation and not comparable to them.

RIP, Senator Feinstein.

I find it desperately sad to realize that the Senator was just four years younger than Anne Frank. To think what could have been.

Excuse me?

I think you have missed my point. Dianne Feinstein and Anne Frank were both Jews of the same generation. The Frank family applied for asylum in America during Hitler's reign of terror. Unfortunately, because of FDR's anti-semitism, they were refused. Along with many other Jewish families. Senator Feinstein was simply lucky that her family got to the USA a little earlier. As we all know, their fates were very very different.

I think it serves us well to remember this, especially now. That's all.

I said that comment out of anger/annoyance and I stand by it, I apologize for nothing. The fact of the matter is that the comment you made refers back to yet another thread where you attempt to make relevant issues that very few of us (if any, actually) care about and yet it seems that you do not understand why that is. And yet, you keep doing it. To quote Albert Einstein “ the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.”  To me, that is exactly what you’re doing.

Yes, and I will continue to do so... because why should I be intimidated by uncaring ignorance?

Also, I'm sorry to tell you this, but Albert Einstein never said that.

Couple of things. One, after doing some google searching Einstein never said that. However, it is very often attributed to him to the point where people think it was he who said that mainly because it wouldn’t have been an out of character thing to say. Thank you google for helping me out. Regardless of who said it the point I was trying to make with that quote still stands.

Second and more important, is it at all possible that the things you think are major atrocities to the world are really not? That, if they really were more people  here would rally behind you rather than ignoring your threads? I know you said that you’re not neurotypical hence me asking that question. You need to understand that just because someone doesn’t think it’s worth it to get upset over something that you do, doesn’t mean they don’t care one iota, it just means that they don’t agree and it comes off as you looking obsessed over things that aren’t worth really getting that upset about thereby making other posters frustrated.

Islander, this is after all a discussion forum... it would be pretty boring if we all agreed on everything all of the time. Personally, I would say my concerns center around climate change, gay rights, lessons we can learn from history, trans oppression etc. I struggle to comprehend how anyone could find these things unimportant.

I am not at all saying that those aren’t important causes. It’s how you go about them that is bothersome. Take, for example, the Beyoncé thread. When people started to say things positive towards her, you kept chiming in with snide negative comments after your point was made in a very clear way. People are going to disagree with you or not care exactly about the same things you do. And with that, I’m done, some of the comments by foster and Zeppe were right and realize I should heed their advice. Have a good one.

"Thank you, Senator Schumer, for your beautiful tribute to Senator Feinstein."

RIP Senator Feinstein and very nice tribute by Senator Schumer. Sadly, some of the best speeches I have ever heard were about people who have died. Ted Kennedy's eulogy to his brother RFK was one of the most touching speeches' I have ever heard. My favorite part below.

"This is the way he lived. My brother need not be idealized, or enlarged in death beyond what he was in life, to be remembered simply as a good and decent man, who saw wrong and tried to right it, saw suffering and tried to heal it, saw war and tried to stop it.

Those of us who loved him and who take him to his rest today, pray that what he was to us and what he wished for others will some day come to pass for all the world.
As he said many times, in many parts of this nation, to those he touched and who sought to touch him:
"Some men see things as they are and say why.
I dream things that never were and say why not."

Islander, it seems that I irritate you. That's fine. You are under no obligation to like me. Likewise, I am under no obligation to conform to your expectations of me. You not liking me does not equate to me having done something wrong.

Have a nice weekend.

P.S. If I was snide in Highland Guy's Beyoncé thread, it was only because my own Beyoncé thread, "How much money does Beyoncé need?", had been unfairly deleted by a moderator for no discernable reason. As he often does, Highland Guy had started an "opposite" thread in a passive aggressive manner. I was feeling a little raw from the sheer spite of it.

Is Highland Guy unaware that Feinstein vetoed domestic partnership legislation and flew the Confederate flag over city hall? This is the politician we are supposed to mourn? Good riddance to this selfish woman.

Again Highland Guy just totally ignores a totally valid point.

Devastated and heartbroken.

I was a member of her San Francisco office until three months ago. It doesn't feel real - every time there was a hurtle, she would overcome. She was tenacious, tough, and determined. She was insistent that she do the work she was elected to do.

When I first met the Senator, the head of the San Francisco office told her that I had graduated  from NYU. She asked what I had studied, and I told her Drama. Without missing a beat, she barked, "Why on earth would you do that?"

She was the greatest Senator California has ever had. The Senate has lost perhaps the last vestiges of true legislators.

I was able to watch from the Senate gallery on Friday morning as Senators rose to pay tribute to her. Sen. Padilla's desk is on the extreme side, so I couldn't see him, but his voice told me everything I needed to know. He gave a moving and emotional speech - one of his first forays into politics was as an Intern in the Senator's LA office. Senators Collins, Murkowski, Murray, and Gillibrand also gave touching remarks.

I am at a loss.

There is actually talk of Meghan Markle filling the empty Senate seat. For real?

Highland Guy, I know you are a devout royalist, but I have no idea if this means you love or hate her.

She would be known as Senator Sussex.
