I have a playbill from a show that James Earl Jones was in. If I sent it to an address I found online, do you think he'd sign it? Of course I'd include a self addressed stamped envelope

Absolutely.  Send it to that address.  All information on the internet is updated instantly so rest assured he’ll not only sign it but send it back by the end of the week.  That’s internet policy.

Not sure how reliable fanmail.biz is but this says he is no longer signing.

That is clearly what some people do here. It’s sad.

You expect manners on a message board?  I guess your world is full of fairies, kittens, and butterflies and your grandmother is your best friend who gives you lots of snuggles and cuddles?  cheeky

Sorry -- but when you post a stupid question, like "I sent a letter to James Earl Jones at some unknown address.  Will he write me back?"  What sort of responses are you expecting??

It was reported that, for health reasons, he would not be attending the dedication of the theatre being named after him on the day of its dedication. Do you seriously think he is going to sign playbills? Maybe, if you send it, you will have a secretarial signature to cherish for the rest of your life.

I think what Brodyfosse and JSquared have an issue with is “…if I sent it to an address I found online.” If this part of the post was omitted there would be nothing wrong with this post, imo. Now it seems like you are provoking and asking us whether the address is legit, while also gatekeeping the address you found.

Next time just say: “I have a playbill from a show that James Earl Jones was in. If I sent it to him, do you think he’d sign it?”

I’m a member of a few autograph service pages on Facebook and I believe it was reported a while ago that he said he would no longer sign autographs. I know a lot of Star Wars fans want him badly on their pieces and were really upset by it.

I don't know what people are clutching their pearls about. I thought BrodyFosse's response was hilarious.

I'm so happy to see that my block user option is functioning as necesssary. Shame though that I have to read some posts when someone quotes someone I've blocked.

Thank you for one of the only helpful responses on here. Snark and sarcasm is so unnecessary but I guess some people can’t help themselves. Anyway-thank you!

@heart, I am not seeing any snark on here. I'd just point out that people enabling bad behavior (and bothering an infirm nonagenarian about autographs is bad behavior without regard to whether an announcement has been made) are not your friends. Sorry but that's more important than your shielding your sensitivities.

It is very, very clear to me that kindness and "shielding sensitivities" are the least of anyones concern on these boards. Which is fine, but they can not act like they're all innocent.

No, his world is full of human beings who know how to treat each other with a modicum of respect. Plenty of us live there. You apparently live in hell and want to drag everyone else down there with you.

I had the pleasure of seeing him in the pre-Broadway tour of On Golden Pond  (more years ago than I wish to count).  He was still doing autographs at the time and was quite gracious, but tried to keep the line moving.  I was near the front of the line and as I walked away, I noticed many, many, younger folks with Star Wars related items.  I was pretty cerian none of them saw the show.  (I didn't see Playbills in their hands) and I bet a fair number of them were getting the autograph so they could turn around and sell the item. I think things like that (including, of course his age, etc) may have played into the decision.  Its one thing to sign Playbills for audience members when the Playbill will likely become a momento.  Quite another thing to essentially give autographs so the autograph-seeker can make money-particularly when they haven't come to the show.

Actors who have a certain fan base from franchise films solely sign items from the show they are doing on Broadway.  Anything not associated with the show isn’t signed, even if a person shoves it in the actor’s face. I remember walking past the Marriott Marquis stage door during Reba McEntire’s run in ANNIE GET YOUR GUN and an announcement was made that she would only sign items from the show and would not be posing for photos.

This may very well be true for certain actors, but it is by no means carved in stone (unless you've heard otherwise)?

Oh i wouldn't sell this-I saw him in...Nice Work if You Can Get It? I saw him in something and I found the playbill so I want to see if he would sign it. I have an extra playbill of a show he was in that I did not see, but maybe if I send it to him, he'd sign it (fingers crossed!)

I mean, I think comparing attending an event that requires getting dressed up, traveling, and being at said event, and having a assistant sit something in front of him for him to sign  is a Gumby of a stretch.

However Mr Jones doesn't sign through the mail anymore, various TTM autograph sites have reported this. He signed for decades before that. I assume dealers, age and time just made him decide that it was time to stop.
