Yes, McFarland was great here! I can see it.
It will probably never happen but I’d love to see Norbert Leo Butz as Harold Hill. I feel like he would do wonderful even if he doesn’t necessarily look the part. And yeah I know he’s already played a con man and is not in the business of replacing. One can dream. I just want to watch him own the stage on those big numbers.
Maybe he can do a special limited 10 week run or something
"a Jackman-led revival of a canonical property like the 1957 Meredith Willson musical promises to be massive, particularly given that the actor has signed on for a full year."
Also, when Rudin had to step down, Hugh and producers Diller & Geffen had assured the public ( they had already sold tickets then ) and the troupe that they will rebuild the production and go on. Maybe his commitment was reinforced by this development?
Presumably he lost a major film role (Michael Mann's "Enzo Ferrari" to which he has been attached & confirmed at the 2021 Cannes film market due to the pandemic-induced delay of The Music Man
He also stayed for a year-long run in 2003-2004 for The Boy From Oz.
