”Tonight’s performance of WICKED is being cancelled due to the detection of a limited number of positive COVID test results combined with previously scheduled absences in the company.

Performances are scheduled to resume tomorrow, Sunday, December 5th at 2PM with a regularly scheduled second performance at 7PM.

We apologize for the inconvenience this causes ticket holders, but the safety of our audiences, the cast and crew remains our top priority. ”

Sounds like they already have too many actors out due to prescheduled absences and that it may just be a few COVID cases since they're prepared to do both shows tomorrow.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Hmmm... when did it happen? I passed by around 7:40pm (trying desperately to NYCB after an f'd up 1 train caused me to rush), and it looked like they were still letting people in the building.

Today’s shows also cancelled. Was taking my daughter… she’s bummed but I was able to grab resale tix for Moulin matinee.

Yeah. I just saw on the show’s Instagram.

”Out of an abundance of caution, based on previous testing results and scheduled absences in the company, today’s performances of Wicked are canceled.

We apologize for the inconvenience this causes ticket holders, but the safety of our audiences, cast, crew and the entire company remains our top priority.

Wicked’s next scheduled performance is on Tuesday, December 7th at 7pm.

All tickets for today’s performances will be refunded at the original point of purchase.”

Based on their statement, I seriously doubt they were planning on having a show today. Not sure why they didn't just say that yesterday.

Cause they wanted to completely ruin their production staff's Sunday morning? wink

Riley Costello was supposed to have his final performance today as Boq. Feel bad for him, though I wonder who is replacing him. Has that been announced?

These cancelations were/are expected and are just a way of life now. However these shows need to stop with the “resuming tomorrow” nonsense when there’s even the slightest possibility it won’t happen. People really do make a lot of arrangements around that promise that can cost real money when they inevitably say “lol jus kidding we off today, 2”.

We're not at this point yet. But we HAVE to eventually figure out a way to live with this thing, without cancelling shows because of it. Because it ain't going away. It can't just be "a way of life" until the virus is eradicated, because that ain't happening.

I could understand them having to wait til the last minute if they were getting new positive test results right before the show, but they’re saying today’s cancellations are based on previous results and scheduled absences. It’s like they’re doubly disappointing their matinee audience by both denying them the show and enough time to make alternate plans.

What are you talking about “we’re not at that point yet” - we’re exactly at that point. We ARE figuring out how to live with it and this is one of the ways we’re doing it - by having shows open until something like this happens and then when they get the all-clear, they resume. That IS living with it.

That isn't living with it. That's letting it dominate life. That's not what to do with an endemic disease.

This whole "hey, let's cancel a week of shows, if one person tests positive" thing is not sustainable in the long run. Just ask people involved with Chicken & Biscuits.

So you think it is sustainable, or that we should keep treating this thing like the bubonic plague? Because I'm telling you that it isn't sustainable. And I think the fact that we've already prematurely lost one show because of it shows that.

You do know that we have vaccines, right? That turn this thing into basically a cold/flu. Get off your high horse.

I'm so sick of people being irrationally afraid of this stupid virus. Get vaccinated, get boosted, put a mask on, and get on with your lives. I'm not gonna sit here and watch this industry get destroyed over a vaccine-preventable disease. If you all are, I guess that's fine. Do you.

If people die at this point, especially in wealthy countries, that's on them. They've had plenty of time to get the vaccine. I have no pity for stupid people.

I thought the point of these cancellations was to keep the virus from spreading and engendering new variants which may be vaccine resistant. Yes, you are protected at the moment if you’re vaccinated, but you can still contract the virus and infect others.

Are you out of your actual mind? Being vaccinated does not mean full immunity to the virus and there are still people who get sick and some who die who have been vaccinated, so please understand that before you go speaking sideways like this again.

Show cancellations are done out of necessity to ensure a consistent run. If infected cast members continue to perform, they not only risk making themselves worse, but also continue exposure to other cast and crew. Wicked would actually likely have continued performances if there weren’t also already scheduled vacations/callouts.

But the main point I have for you BroadwayRox is please check yourself and whatever privilege has allowed you to have such odd views of the state of this pandemic and how you think we should all act.
