Yes that was me. I had a conversation with a friend about three weeks ago now who works on the show.  And when they first shutdown he said what they had been hearing was that this last week there would be an official announcement.  I was waiting for it all week. But alas. There hasn’t been anything. In our more recent chats. He hasn’t mentioned anything about it and I don’t really want to ask him when he’s out of a job.  But apparently the crowds are quite small and not really clearly weekly expenses.

There is a bit of a lesson in this. The decision to close, or not close, involves very few people, often just the main producers and the GM. When someone who works on a show tells you what they have been hearing, it's gossip. It might be an educated guess, based on dismal attendance and what not. Producers and GMs don't wander around the theatre talking about it with actors, stagehands, ushers. It's not unusual for company managers, ad people, press agents, etc., to be out of the loop too. But in show business people gossip and some gossips like to pretend they know more than anyone else. (I'm not suggesting this is your friend, fanboy.) It is well to remember that producers sometimes have reason for keeping shows open even when it might seem irrational from the outside looking in. And sometimes it IS irrational, because producers are not always rational actors.

It is also not a good idea to post publicly a private conversation about something like this. Your post also identifies the person as someone who works on the show. People associated with and are in shows do read these boards. I suspect your friend told you this in confidence.  Your post could  possibly implicate him in, what is up to now, a rumor/gossip (Unless he said it was ok to post about the conversation). Sometimes it is best not to mention these things publicly until after they happen, if they do. JMO

How’s Tina doing? Anyone seen it and know what the audience attendance is like?

Here's tomorrow night's seating chart. There are about 285 seats sold as of now (200 downstairs, 85 upstairs) –– so 19% full. And when a show is doing this poorly, you're not moving 1,000 seats a night with TKTS and walkups.

So the sales are abysmal.

I have never understood TINA's producing strategy and it must be incredibly disheartening for the actors to look out into the audience during the megamix and see a house that's not even half full.

For real though. I know prices have dropped a bit, but the fact there are no real discounts is quite a stupid business model - unless they’re angling to go on a “hiatus” too.

They are doing the 2-for-1 Broadway Week deal, so if anyone has been waiting for discounts to this show, this looks like the time to go.

It's been at TKTS regularly + now there's Broadway Week. Think it's a matter of ticketbuyers simply not caring to see the show.

I wish the company well, whatever happens. I think it’s a worthwhile show with dynamite talent on that stage, no matter which Tina you see. I hope they can get through the winter.

Personally I think this musical is an insult to Turner's legacy (despite Turner's own involvement). Not quite as bad as the Aretha biopic RESPECT, but pretty awful. A great song catalogue and cast that suffer because of poor writing/direction/design.

Okay!

It seems like there are so many wishing this to fail. I understand that the producers’ strategy of selling tickets is really frustrating for everyone, audience and company alike. This seems like a show people would rejoice if they were to announce a closing. I guess we all need something to hate on!

There have always been people here who have wanted shows to close because they don't like them. I've never felt that way. I think shows should clause because it doesn't make economic sense that they are running, but even then I recognize the right of people to waste their own money if they want. I have a friend who has a friend who has an apartment on the UWS and another one in Midtown East. Very convenient, especially in the snow.

I didn’t exactly love this. In fact, of all the shows I’ve seen on Broadway, this was probably my least favorite except for the last 15 minutes or so which were fantastic and also pretty devoid of any book scenes (it’s not a coincidence those two things overlapped). Despite those last moments, I left the show in a foul mood. Still, I don’t find any joy in rooting for it to close. It’s not the show I would have hoped for to honor Tina’s legacy, but it’s what we got. Despite whatever misgivings I have about the show, it’ll close when the producers/investors decide there is no hope on the horizon. It seems from the outside, that time has already come, but who knows. Maybe they miraculously haven’t exhausted all their SVOG funds. Who knows. It’s keeping people employeed. I have no reason to wish them pushed back into unemployment sooner rather than later.

This show seems to be one people keep prematurely discussing the end of- I remember people were questioning how long it would last when I saw it (just after Adrienne left) and its still going. That said- unless there are a lot more last minute purchases than we are guessing, I don't see how it can make it much longer.

Of course, I don't want any show to close.  Just surprised this one has managed to keep on going.

I'm looking at the numbers from a purely financial perspective divorced from my personal opinion of the onstage production. The sales are bad, period (and they have been for a while –– I think everyone here is pleasantly surprised the show has continued til now, even if they are burning money).

That’s fair. There’s no denying that this show has its vultures, though. I can’t begin to know the producing strategies, but given the frequency of posts and threads for this particular show, it’s interesting that we didn’t have other dedicated threads or “is this the week they announce” type posts for the other shows that were doing poorly in terms of sales since reopening. We’re still in uncharted territories.

When Broadway Week discounts opened to the public on 2/11, the uprgrade (BWAYUP) code did not work on Ticketmaster. It has been a week and it still does not work.  I don't think they are paying attention to details at this point.

Oddly enough, BWAYWKUP uploaded the TINA upgrade.

The BWAYWKUP code takes you to $75.50 seats with the closest center orchestra seat in row Q. The upgraded $125 seats don't seem to exist.

Interestingly, I listen Z100 in New York most mornings and they are actively promoting the show on the radio, pretty much the only show I can think of at the moment, and their discounting sucks, so clearly there's some fund paying for this thing to ride out the quiet season without having to lower their average ticket price.

Actually, there were plenty of “ is this the week…” postings for “ Diana -The Musical” from opening night until they did announce it’s final performance.
