I hadnt seen anyone post on this. Im more than halfway through the audiobook. I find it very well written and moving. Its very much a chance for the girl with the incandescent talent, boundless perkiness and beaming smile to strip away that facade and share the sadness and loss that shaped her.
Its more somber in tone than I expected but its never too much. Its a testament to what Sutton has overcome in her life to succeed as well how crafting and creating art grounded her and allowed her to feel effective in the face of adversity.
What I appreciate is her brutal honesty. Shes very open without being exploitative to her family or those whom she has dated/married. Its a very affirming story for those who have survived dysfunctional and at times cruel family, unhealthy relationships and interpersonal difficulties with peers.
I applaud her willingness to tell her story in such an unflinching way. She didnt need to, its certainly off brand for her. However it will help people understand her better and give them hope.

Bettyboy,72, I was under the impression it was about crafting during the pandemic...seems like its more than that? Does she cover her time in different shows?

It is a typical memoir going through her personal life and career. I read and advance reader copy back in the spring and loved it. Highly recommended.

I assumed it was a craft book as well. I was surprised when it wasn’t. Hugh Jackson just posted a sweet video saying he also thought it was a book that was going to teach him how to crochet. He said he was very moved by the book and gave it a shout out.
She’s been selling signed copies on various sites like Barnes and Noble so I’d grab one while you can. Having the autograph of a two time Tony winner in her memoir is a nice thing to have.
It’s a really lovely book.

She chronicles some of her resume and life moments based on a particular craft or crocheted project she made at that time. I attended a book tour event at 92Y last week where she spoke about a "divorce blanket" she made after her marriage with Christian Borle ended. And illustrated parallels about its texture and her emotions (wool material), the revelations and emotions she felt at the time, etc.
