Yeah, I've been checking the show's socials every so often today but nothing yet. They're already in rehearsal though so it's only a matter of time, I guess.

That's not a very interesting cast...though it's a very Casey Nicholaw group, so I guess he is getting his way after the movie did what it did? Certainly wasn't expecting Broadway STARS, but figured we'd get one or two Tony nominees among the principals.

I do wonder if there is hesitancy among some stage actors re: touring right now, especially to middle America. I wouldn't blame anyone for not wanting to tour until Covid is more under control.

I'm a little concerned that the list of tour dates omits the Bloomington stop, since I have tickets for it.

It's great that they did it for the actor playing Emma, but weird that it wasn't done consistently for everyone.

I wonder if the Emma character will be non binary in this production? That might require a lot of changes to the book and lyrics.

Well...looking at the Instagram image with all of the pronouns, it appears that Kaden Kearney is the only trans/non-binary actor. I personally think that a certain level of assumption of "cis until informed otherwise" is fine. I am all for trans/non-binary rights, but I personally find the current trend among theater people of putting everyone's pronouns in press releases, news articles, email signatures, etc. is mostly just virtue signaling.

It's not virtue signaling, and it's much more than just the theatre world –– normalizing pronouns is done to make sure trans and non binary folks don't have to feel like they are the ONLY ones who must share their pronouns, and to help us stop assuming gender based on name or appearance.

And the Terrys, Pats, and Jamies of the world are thrilled.

People have and will continue to make assumptions about gender based on appearance, as well as names. It’s human nature, and that will never change, nor does it need to do. GNC individuals are welcome to correct those assumptions at any time. I am happy to use whatever pronouns they prefer. But more than 99% of the population are the gender they appear to be. In the theatre world that percentage goes down a bit, but this current business of everyone telling each other their pronouns all the time is getting pretty silly IMO. I get that the idea is to not make a trans person feel “othered,” but they are the other. It’s okay to be the other. Be proud to be the other!

Every new situation or job I’ve been part of this year (not even theatre related) has normalized announcing pronouns and land acknowledgement. It’s not that hard.

Sometimes it takes people a minute. And that's okay. It took me quite a few tries before it normalized in my brain regarding the they/them pronoun. I will never disregard pronouns, though half of America would just laugh in people's faces regarding this entire issue.

Sutton, exactly. If even I as a trans-friendly liberal theater person think the pronoun sharing is being over-done, I can only imagine what most other Americans think. I appreciate that theater people are often the first ones to try to affect social change, but with this one I'm like, "Stop trying to make 'fetch' happen. It's not going to happen."

I guess I'm just an a**hole. Carry on.

Right. Just saying it’s not just a theatre-related thing. It’s been implemented in academics (like in syllabi and professor/student introductions) and it’s as simple as people having it in their email signatures. I’ve also seen it normalized in people’s Zoom display names. I understand it’s an adjustment and may seem silly when you have to do it the first few times, but I don’t think we should be so dismissive of it. It’s about inclusion. Many people identify differently than how they present.

I don't mean to dismiss it, and feel it does have value. I led a group of college students in introductions with pronouns for the first time recently, and I was glad I did because one of the students turned out to be a trans male. Then again, it was a theater class so the chances of that happening were much higher than if I was teaching, say, an economics class.

Personally, I just feel that there are circumstances under which the sharing of pronouns can across as performative and "virtue signally" - i.e. a cast announcement with everyone's pronouns even though everyone is cis except for one person who is clearly non-binary if you take five seconds to Google them. If someone is trans, I just feel that it is their responsibility to advocate for themselves and make sure people know their pronouns. It is not up to the rest of the world to start sharing their pronouns all the time just for that 0.5% chance someone is trans. Again, it depends on the environment. There is of course a huge LGTBQ population in the arts so it is more necessary to do pronoun sharing in that sort of setting.

Just my two cents. I think there is a "happy medium" that can be achieved here in regards to this issue and it will simply take a while for us as a society to get there.

As this show is about LGBTQ issues at its core, I would think it’s part of their mission to include/normalize pronouns, no matter how many company members identify as trans or non-binary. The show is about expressing identities proudly, especially in smaller towns the show will reach across the country.

All the talk of pronouns aside I'm sure this cast will be wonderful and I can't wait to see this on tour. I loved the Broadway production and was sad it closed so early.

I’m excited for Emily Borromeo as Angie. I’ve never seen her in this sort of role, and it’s nice to see a performer of color in the main adult quartet.

The really interesting thing about this tour is that Bloomington Indiana is still not listed on the show's website or any other website as far as I can tell. The show is scheduled to play two nights in Bloomington but it is only listed on the venue's website.

The venue in Bloomington Indiana - the Indiana University Auditorium does NOT require proof of vaccine or a negative Covid test. Isn't that against the Equity policy? Do you think the actors and producers may not be aware of this?

Is it possible there are two tours going on? One that is equity and one that is non-equity?

Does the Equity policy require tour stops to have vaccine requirements, or just mask requirements? The Hershey stop IS listed on the website, and that venue does not require vaccines or negative tests either. Their event page does say "We are working with the tour regarding any requirements specific to our venue that they may wish to implement. We will share updated information when it is available on our social channels and website for event attendees." So they might add a requirement, I guess, but it's only a month away at this point.

Not specific to The Prom, but the Dayton venue just announced they've dropped vaccine requirements, and they get equity tours (Hamilton will be there in January and Come From Away in April). I'd imagine they wouldn't have done that if the tours were requiring them.

I just read this morning that the Beautiful tour canceled its Abilene engagement due to the venue not meeting union/industry covid policies. So it’s entirely possible that’s what happened here as well.

Beautiful is scheduled to come to Bloomington next month for 3 days so I guess we’ll see what happens.
