I'm interested in hearing everyone's picks for each category. Despite limited options, some interesting races still!

I’m gonna put some money on Tveit losing because if I’m right, I’m gonna be RICH.

In all seriousness, all I want is for “The Inheritance” and Paul Hilton to win.

Oh, and Jake. Obviously Jake. Jake.

Jake…..

Jake.

This year, the prizes are of course points, but also tickets to the nominated shows.

I think the trophies should be 50% smaller for this “season”. I’m truly happy for anyone that wins, but the engraver should put an asterisk on each award. Maybe I’m just old and grumpy.

Apparently Tveit can actually lose. I think he could too.

During the voting period, Jagged had a far bigger online presence than Moulin Rouge did, like the virtual performance and lots of press. However, who knows what private goodies MR sent out to voters, and if the voters cared what JLP was doing. The casting controversy didn’t happen until voting closed, and MR’s biggest story was Aaron’s nomination, which he doesn’t even deserve.

I hope JLP wins - I think MR is a fun Vegas show but hardly a Best Musical.

As for plays, I don’t see a world where Slave Play doesn’t sweep. It was fascinating (and sad for those involved) to watch The Inheritance so epically fall from grace in nearly every stage of it’s transfer across the pond.

MR feels like a cross between Mamma Mia and an okay year of Broadway Bares.

I love Aaron Tveit, but if I was a voter I would be a “No” vote. Thrilled he’s finally a nominee, but the performance was nothing extraordinary.

I think with the amount of design and craft awards that MOULIN ROUGE will rack up, it will be odd if they don’t win the big prize.

Also Jordan - even if Jake doesn’t win Actor I think with producing SLAVE PLAY he’s walking away with at least one Tony that night!!

You’ve got to feel sorry for Aaron - if he wins the ‘haters’ are going to suggest it’s only because he had no competition. If he loses it’s a bit of a slap in the face being the only nominee. Coupled with his shakey Tony history in the past (eg no n2n Tony nomination). The guy just can’t seem to get a break with the Tony Awards - and he never asked for any of this! I guess ultimately because he continues to have a rewarding career across multiple mediums he has the last laugh though.

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

If Aaron Tveit wins the Tony, as predicted, I'd be thrilled for him. He's terrific in ''Moulin Rouge!'' He can't help it if the 2019-20 Tony season was cut shorter by COVID, nor did he have any say in being the sole nominee in his category. If it were up to me, it would've been a two-man race that includes Chris McCarrell from ''The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical.'' But that's not how the Tony nominators ruled. They thought Tveit was worthy of a Tony, but McCarrell wasn't. It's also a sign of Tveit's classiness that he reached out to McCarrell because Tveit says he knew how it felt when the Tonys pass you over.

Look, Tveti's haters are gonna hate. Meantime, his career is going gangbusters. Even during COVID, when  many actors were out of work, Tveit filmed ''One Royal Holiday'' for Hallmark, ''Schmigadoon!'' for Apple TV+ and ''American Horror Stories'' for Hulu. And now Tveit's returning to Broadway in ''Moulin Rouge!,'' a show he loves, and pre-pandemic, was that season's highest-grossing new musical. On Sunday, he'll perform at the Tonys again, only this time, he'll probably have picked up a prize earlier in the evening. Bravo!

Of course Tveit WILL win. No one would allow the humiliation to let the sole nominee he's not worth the award.
