I did not know this existed prior to today.  Anybody have any comments about it?  Although I am scared of heights, I have done all of the other observation viewpoints in NYC, as well as other cities.  But this one looks really scary.  I have an upcoming three (really two) day trip the very beginning of November and always looking, as a tourist, to do something that I haven't done prior.  Taking pictures are the most important to me, but if the glass reflects me taking the picture in the image, that would be a big no for me.  Haven't really read anything negative other than the poor management of the crowds.  Any tips would be appreciated.

They keep the crowd orderly and it's really cool for like 5 minutes. Sure. Definitely worth the 36 bux and you can't kill yourself like at the Vessel, which was always a possibility given the design flaws. If you're scared of heights though just make sure to take a deep breath before looking down.

Thanks for the response, Sutton.  Thanks for mentioning The Vessel, which I also didn't know about.  The website states it is temporarily closed.  I'm not sure I would climb it.  Definitely wouldn't pay the admission.  But it will be a unique picture.

I did the vessel once, it wasn't exciting at all. You climb to the top for crappy views of nothing. You aren't missing anything with it being closed. The one you are asking about is probably so much better.

Oh, the Vessel won't be opening again ever. I get what the designer was trying to achieve but it became the place to off yourself in NYC. So much so, that they were only letting pairs or more in your party. Like, if you were alone you could not even climb it, that's how crazy it got.

The Edge is dope though. Enjoy it and be in the moment and not obsess about getting that perfect photo. Enjoy!

I thought the name sounded familiar.  I was going to ask that, but didn't want to ask or state something if I had the wrong information.  Again, thanks for the info.

It's cool, enjoy your time in NYC. For reference, here is a photo of The Vessel, which only has 4 feet glass "walls" all the way up, so you could see where it would be problematic.

Recording artists have been doing videos on The Edge. I heard it was closed earlier in the week so Justin Bieber could film a music video there. Here is The Weekend's VMA performance on it. I think it was the first video done there but not sure.

Uncaged, Thanks for the info.  I couldn't imagine staying up there long enough to film a video.  I would be terrified.  When I go, it's going to be quick.  Take some pictures, look around and bolt to the nearest elevator.

Most welcome! I wish I could go up. About 15 years ago out of nowhere I started experiencing vertigo at heights above 7 floors. It got a bit more intense over the years so I avoid it. Drives me crazy as I never had a problem with heights.  Enjoy!

Forgot to add my two cents since my trip.  This was not at all what I had imagined.  For whatever reason, I wasn't nervous at all due to the height.  I had mistakenly thought the floor was all clear which of course it wasn't.  I was lucky enough to be one of the first up there and enjoyed that for the short minute or so.  I thought the views were really good.  But taking pictures through plexiglass isn't my thing.  The most amusing thing was watching people laying on the floor taking a picture.  When there was only one person I could see the interest.  But it soon just became a bed of people and you couldn't see the clear floor due to all the bodies laying down.  Was I glad I did it?  Yes.  Was it worth close to $40?  No.  Sutton, you were correct that it was cool for about 5 minutes.  I stayed longer just to justify it.  I also had a blue sky, pretty day, when I went.  Although I did it before years and years ago, if the sky is blue, I going to do the Top of the Rock again during my one day trip. Oh my God Art, I am DYING LAUGHING at the thought of everyone just laying on the ground. That is fu*king hilarious. Yeah, it's fun once for 5 minutes and then it's like....okay I did that and I can do something totally different next time.

Top of the Rock is always a good time.
