I mean, it's not approved in America and it's got a lot of problems. Sucks, but understandable.

Well I get my 2nd AZ This Friday so I'm guessing I will also be persona non grata on Bway.

Give my regards to Broadway! ( not my cash)

No need to be a drama queen. This applies ONLY to Springsteen. So far no other Broadway show is requiring proof of vaccination. Bruce will survive somehow without your cash.

How reassuring for people that it's ONLY Bruce Springsteen so far. Don't tell people how to feel.

Interesting. I hadn’t even considered something like this could happen. I suppose it makes sense but also they’re gonna need to figure this out ASAP if they want those tourism dollars this Fall.

I think this will sort itself out shortly but it is just the tip of a global iceberg in which A Z is the least of the controversy. My guess is that this was basically a regulation that seemed reasonable in the abstract.

Yep. An American friend of mine was in the Novavax trial too, so I'm wondering about that. But yeah, I can see this being something that satisfied legal requirements since the FDA hasn't approved it yet, and things can rapidly change.

I personally don't see the FDA authorizing the AstraZeneca jab at any point in the foreseeable future, if ever, so it will be interesting to see if/how this evolves, going forward.

Novavax, I do think will get approved in the US, though likely not until after the larger reopening begins in September.

There are two things being focused on. The FDA looks at efficacy and safety. The state looks at efficacy. The current rule is a piggyback that didn't focus on the distinction. I expect the problem of this thread to be worked out.

By 'a lot of problems' are you referring to anything else other than unusual blood clotting incidents (that appear to be less of a risk than COVID itself for older adults to which the vaccine is mostly administered for now)? The vaccine in recent studies appears to be more effective than first thought (similar to other vaccines).

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

I just hope all this is resolved by the time Loretta Swit's one-woman show (now titled THREE SWITS TO THE WIND) opens on Broadway. I wouldn't want anyone to miss it!

I’m just curious about what Broadway will actually be requiring when they open. I was just in Provincetown for the weekend. First, the entire town is maskless including bars, restaurants and shows. I was in drag shows and performances with probably 200 people shoulder to shoulder, maskless. Performers singing full voice among the audience. Audience members drinking, talking, laughing, screaming, talking to the performers. The Broadway series at the Arthouse opens next week and that will be about 150 maskless people at the Art House and several hundred people maskless at the Town Hall. No one was checking for vaccinations. It was very interesting.

Massachusetts lifted all restrictions in the past two weeks. While maskless is supposed to be for those vaccinated, they did not put any burden on businesses to get proof.

This is why I'll likely where my mask in large settings.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Thanks for that heads up. I will possibly be in Provincetown in August. Trying to go before or after the big festival. Main reason for going is whale watching. We are vaccinated but still wear our masks in stores. I did a fully vaccinated show in NYC 2 weeks ago. It was a bit strange but was comfortable in that they checked everyone who attended. Not sure the person I am going with to Provincetown will feel comfortable with the whole place being maskless.

Just give the world Love.

Beyond Emergency Use Authorization, no vaccine is fully approved by anyone anywhere, so I’m not at all surprised by this change. Whatever problems the AstraZeneca vaccine has have little to do with its efficacy, which is on par with J&J, and more to do with possible side effects, which have nothing to do with being around other people in a theatre.

It's an odd time right now where I live.  I think most of the people not wearing masks indoors are those refusing to be vaccinated.  So basically, we're on our own now, which really doesn't bother me too much since the number are coming down.  I had a Realtor show up at my door for a meeting the other day unmasked.  I asked him if he had been vaccinated.  No. This is a supposed professional who meets the public.  So there you have it - the bizarre warped world of America.  Makes you want to stay at home.

Exactly. Those most jazzed about not practicing any precautions are often the most hazardous of the lot. Bottom line. Do what you need to to feel safe. I still wear my mask and keep my distance in crowds  . This fall and winter will be interesting with variants and the scuzzballs who aren’t doing anything on top of regular cold/flu season which was mild last year due to CDC guidelines for COVID.

Personally, I've been quite happy to go maskless in more places, since being vaccinated. But I'm only one person. As you said, people need to calculate their own risks, and act accordingly. That's how it is, moving forward.

Get vaxxed, everyone!
