Sounds like the Wormwood's songs are gone, as is their son, Michael. They had to cut down the time somehow.

They cut Loud? What a shame.

Loud is one of my favorite numbers and Riseborough would kill it! But it is very stagey

Yes but it could lend itself very well to a fabulous “fantasy” number.

In my latest piece for Gold Derby, I write about whether or not experts are underestimating Matilda for a Best Film Comedy/Musical nomination at this year’s Golden Globes.

Anyone know where this might be playing in NYC? I'd love to see it in a theater. I know Netflix owns The Paris, but it looks like the only thing they have on their schedule as of yet for December is Iñárritu's Bardo

The soundtrack is releasing tomorrow.  Who has already pre-ordered it or plans on downloading it tomorrow or will you be waiting for the cd release on December 9th?

Are people still "pre-ordering" and "downloading" music?  I'll be streaming it on Apple Music for sure!

Looks like Pathetic, Loud, This Little Girl, ad Telly all got cut.

Good riddance to Telly but I truly loved the other songs. Netflix's MATILDA: THE MOVIE MUSICAL - News & Discussion Thread

Loud got cut because Riseborough couldn’t deliver it 🤣. Likewise they’ve had to majorly edit her dancing because she was so bad at it.

Ok, if she can't sing and can't dance the part why was she cast?

The new soundtrack sounds AMAZING! I am LOVING the beefed up orchestrations.

Loving it especially all the tracks of instrumental score.  Can't wait to see the film.  I was under the impress that it would only have a theatrical release in the UK but I now see that it will debut in US theaters on Friday, December 9 and will be available on Netflix [excluding the UK & Ireland] on Christmas Day.  smiley

The orchestrations for this new soundtrack are just wonderful. I’m even more excited for this to come out now. “Loud” being cut aside, they really nailed the tone, at least listening to it.

Most of the articles I've seen have said that it's only getting a theatrical release in the UK and Ireland (hopefully they are wrong, as I would also love to see it on the big screen)

the fat suit that they put on bruce is horrible. it literally looks like a pillow stuffed underneath the shirt. why couldn’t they hire a plus sized kid for the role?

I'm absolutely loving what I'm hearing on this soundtrack and the reviews for the film seem pretty positive - I wonder if this is a rare example of a movie musical that actually works!

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

Well I saw it and cried several times through Naughty, When I Grow Up, My House, Quiet and the final new song. The tone is perfect to make a musical work, the performances are for the most part excellent, especially the pair of Matilda/Miss Honey. Most of the changes all worked for me. The music and especially lyrics are even more clever than I remember, with so much subtext and puns and also good themes/messages about navigating this difficult life. I think this should become an iconic movie musical that all children and their parents end up watching, like Mary Poppins, The Lion King etc. it’s just so magical. I wonder if this film could get some Oscar nominations?

I thought I’d be able to see this last week but caught it tonight in the movie theater and just adored it. It’s one of the more successful examples of a stage to screen adaption.

While the casting is uniformly perfect, I need to single out Lashana Lynch’s Miss Honey. Lynch is able to be the living embodiment of goodness and love and it’s just a truly special performance . I can’t wait for this to drop on Netflix later this month and watch it again.
