I won’t lie, to fulfill my craving of going to the movies, I have, on occasion taken the PATH train from Herald Square to Jersey City to see a movie there.
But, the one thing I do miss is seeing art house/indie films. And, while there are theatres in NYC that show those, I can’t wait for them to do so again.
I’ve gone to JC also. I go to the movies every year on my birthday and last year I decided to do that and was really surprised and happy with how safe I felt at the AMC. I restarted my Stubs membership the other day and made a reservation to see a movie on Friday and I’m just beyond excited. I also can’t wait to go back down to some of the smaller theaters soon and throw some cash to them.
Jordan and Islander_fan, How busy were the theaters in Jersey City? As I stated earlier, my two theater experiences were basically empty of patrons. Off topic, I attended a concert Thursday night of a Bee Gees cover band (who were to my surprise, quite good) and it had alot of people in attendance. Ticket prices were high (I won the tickets). Pre Covid, I attended the Australian Bee Gees (perform alot in Vegas) and even at a lowered price of $20 a ticket only had about 400 people. Shows that people are really itching to see something live and will pay for it. Even Bee Gees cover bands.
Read that the final Craig Bond Movie No Time To Die scheduled to open in October at a small independent movie theater near us. It will probably be much sooner for a general release. Glad we will be able to see his swan song in the role in a theater

I have been going to the AMC at the Newport Centre Mall. The auditoriums there are pretty decent in size. They have it set up so, when you go to choose your seat it marks off which seats are not being sold to help with social distancing. As of right now, I have not seen a movie where it was super close to sold out or sold out altogether.
But, one of the things that AMC did (and is still doing but phasing out) was the screening of classic movies with a wide appeal, five bucks a pop, as a way to get people back in the door, prior to the roll out of new movies it’s been dying down. I have wanted to see but never got to screenings of ET Star Wars and Back to the Future. Yet, these are films that do sell out
Cuomo announced on Friday, April 2nd that venues in New York State can open at 33% capacity. Venues will be able to host up to 100 people indoors and up to 200 people outdoors. And as long as people test negative for COVID-19 or are vaccinated with proof, venues can have up to 150 people indoors and 500 outdoors.
