Nick has always been my fave Jobro but I can't see him as Frankie ... Jersey Boys was actually my first show back in 2013
I saw Mark Ballas in Kinky Boots a few years back and I know he did several productions of Jersey Boys . He has more of a Frankie voice plus he's super short .
Also, there's also a movie so whyyy unless they are closing the off broadway production

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
I thought he was really, really wonderful in How to Succeed. We were all of course very nervous after his Les Miserables performance, but he turned out to be really wonderful, definitely my favorite of the three Finches in the revival. You can look through old threads here to see the pleasant surprises, and listen to the EP they did of Jonas's featured tracks. I don't know what happened between Les Miserables and H2$, if he took singing and acting lessons, or if the legit singing style of Les Miserables just didn't fit his voice and the suave charm of Finch came naturally to him, but everyone I know who saw him in the role said similarly positive things.
As for why do this when there's a film--the film was not very warmly received, and in my opinion, it's not a very good representation of what makes the show so special. If they film the Des McAnuff production and don't try to reinvent the wheel, I think it has a shot at being really wonderful.
I really liked the way the 2010 Jersey Boys b-roll was shot and had always hoped the show could be preserved in that way. Phantom had a film (similarly not well-received) and their anniversary concert was pretty close to how the show is actually staged, so yeah, I don't see why Jersey Boys couldn't do the same.

He’s a much better singer and actor than Les Miz would lead one to believe. I think he was just horribly miscast and out of his depth as Marius. That being said, I don’t know if he can hit the Frankie Valli high notes.

Doesn't really make sense to move the show when they could just film it at New World Stages. I think his tweet implies that there will be a return engagement on Broadway once things open up again. With JB being a crowd pleaser/tourist draw. It's also not incredibly expensive to run, especially with the downsizing of the show in recent years (sadface).
If this does happen I’d love to see Olivia Valli play Mary Delgado like she did in the Off-Broadway production. She’s Frankie Valli and Mary Delgado’s granddaughter so her involvement playing her own grandmother would be interesting publicity.
I don't see them opening back up on Broadway. This, to me, is an event that will keep the show on the radar, so to speak, for when the show re-opens off-Broadway. I wonder if they will use any of the current cast for this? JMO
Nick Jonas is a good actor, as shown in Kingdom where he really excelled. And his movie roles have been respectable too. Even Les Mis wasn't that bad, I've seen worse Marius's than him
