Something's Afoot has at last received a cast album. The musical Agatha Christie spoof had a brief Broadway run in 1976 and became a staple of community theaters since.
The cast is listed as: Susie Blake, Sally Ann Triplett, Laura Pitt-Pulford, Julie Atherton, Graham Bickley, Scott Hunter, Daniel Boys, Keith Merrill, Gordon Griffin, Stuart Pendred, and Tony winner Jim Dale (in a non-singing cameo.)
The album is full of spoiler filled dialogue. It brings back fond memories of a production I appeared in ages ago. I was a baritone in a tenor role and had to option down on my high notes. The album performer has no such challenge.
Though some songs, like "You Fell Out of the Sky," are set ups for visual gags that an album cannot capture. (Someone's trying to drop a chandelier on her as she dances.)
In my youth I saw the show a couple of times in community theater... but am I dreaming or was there a Showtime presentation with Jean Stapleton and, this seems wrong but... Andy Gibb?
I stumbled into this show on Broadway many years ago. I had nothing to do and the seats at TKTS were close orchestra center, so I thought I'd give it a try. Wow! Years later, I drove up to Goodspeed to see their production. It was good, but the Broadway version is what I really remember.
