Well you can twist my words however you’d like. But I’m sure it coming to BroadwAy and the announcement at that time had something to do with it

Both things can be true at once.

It's very likely that the dialogue around systemic racism in the theatre industry inspired investors and producers to look to Black-led projects more than they were before. And Thoughts of a Colored Man may very well have benefited from that. But that doesn't mean it isn't good enough on its own terms to warrant a transfer. The metrics for what makes a show "deserving of a Broadway transfer" are messed up in a lot of ways, and now these metrics are being actively challenged to prioritize quality, artistic risk, and inclusivity of Black voices - and there's a lot of overlap between those 3 things.

I didn't twist your words at all, it was a dumb, ignorant comment. Period.

The protests happened throughout the summer. This was announced in November. No overlap but cute and slightly racist try.

I missed Thoughts of a Colored Man earlier so thanks for the reminder!

I feel like we'll kind of see a trend of "safer" or more commercial musicals (like adaptations of popular movies or revivals of classics with big stars a la Music Man) while the plays will be the place for more thought provoking material. I like that we're seeing more diverse shows added to the lineup and definitely hope that that will be a continuing trend.

I don't know if Jersey Boys would make as much sense to try to bring back to Broadway since it presumably still has its residence at New World Stages (though of course nothing's guaranteed), which would possibly allow it to open before any of the actual Broadway houses would. I can't imagine it picking up a large enough demand to warrant a transfer back to Broadway since it's been in NYC for quite some time now.

I was talking with someone involved with that show the other day and he didn’t mention anything to me about returning to Broadway.

While it's possible some off-Broadway theatres could reopen before Broadway, New World Stages is owned by Shubert and is following Broadway's schedule, as far as reopening.

What does that even mean? Theatres can reopen when the state announces it is safe to reopen them. Landlords are just spectators like the rest of us. I can assure you that when the state says yes, and a producer says yes, the Shuberts are not going to say no.

New World Stages' capacity (including all stages) is almost 1,900 - they will most likely be in the same category for Broadway theatres anyway.

I believe they're just saying that due to the capacity, New World Stages will probably reopen along with the rest of the Broadway theatres, as opposed to some smaller theatres, which, ones reopenings begin, may reopen sooner due to their lower capacity.

Each of the theaters in New World Stages is fewer than 500 seats though so if they do staggered start times or only open a few of the shows at a time it may not reach full capacity, so who knows how it's going to be classified.

There has been no suggestion that performance space reopening will be based on capacity.

Kelli O'Hara mentioned in the summer of 2020 that Days of Wine and Roses was going to Broadway in the spring (2021).  That is obviously not happening, but she has mentioned it going into production once the pandemic is over so I would assume it would be in the 2021-22 season.

No one was under the impression that there was a suggestion? People were just saying that if/when reopenings happen, if it is indeed based on capacity, then NWS will probably reopen at the same time as the rest of the Broadway theatres. Not sure why that's hard to understand.

It's hard to understand for the precise reason I said: "There has been no suggestion that performance space reopening will be based on capacity." You are perpetuating your false premise by saying "[i]f it is indeed based on capacity." The task force looking into early reopening trials (i.e., pre-herd immunity) of some indoor spaces is specifically tasked by Cuomo only to look at venues that have flexible seating (no more possible at NWS than at any Broadway house). Moreover, it would be nonsensical to treat NWS as one venue for capacity purposes even if that was a consideration. That would be like telling a restaurant that it has too many yurts.

Ahrens and Flaherty are on the Oscar campaign trail right now for their song "How Can I Tell You?" and have mentioned in a couple interviews now that Marie Dancing Still is still aiming to open on Broadway. (In a couple bios, I've seen it referred to as simply Marie, but I don't think I saw an official announcement of a title change?) Obviously nothing is official yet, but I suppose this is one to keep an eye on since Flaherty suggests they are just waiting for the right theater to become available.

I wonder how all this will work from a casting stand point. Will there just be a giant blitz of casting notices and quick rehearsal processes.

Not dense at all. I don't know who "they" is, since their has not been a whisper from the production about this (preposterous) idea.

They refers to the rights holders, in this case Dodger Properties. What has been teased to numerous outlets is a recording of Nick Jonas as Frankie Valli, that would be streamed - there has also been talk of a production alongside the rollout, depending on how vaccines and the like go.
Here are a handful of sites talking about the streaming project - an actors team will regularly leak something like this during contract negotiations to take the temperature of the general public's interest in a person taking on a specific role. You can easily google Nick Jonas Jersey Boys for about 100 similar articles.

I think we are all aware of the Jonas streaming thing, but the question was about "they" teasing a return of the show from NWS to Broadway and I do not think you can provide a link suggesting a connection  between anything "they" have said and "talk" of that. Hence my question and my point.

PS To the best of my knowledge, the Dodgers are producers, not rights holders. I think that would be quite surprising to a lot of people.

I think I'm more excited for Flying Over Sunset now because I'm looking to be surprised. I'm slightly less enthusiastic about Six as it no longer has the same momentum or feels as interesting as a concept. I still really want to see Caroline or Change but I'm more prepared to be disappointed if the direction is unremarkable. It's Roundabout so I'll see 1776 but now I'm fully prepared for it to be a mess.

The vibe on Company is more chaotic. I will definitely buy the first affordable ticket I can but not exactly out of a desire to see the production. It's weird but I'm prepared to spend the most on it but just hope for the best.

I'm curious if anyone else's excitement/expectations for the shows likely to return has shifted during the year they've been on hold.
