Questions about benefit/staged concerts...

Im curious as to how these concerts are made. Does anyone have any insight into how they are put up, both benefit performances of musicals (like Dreamgirls, Funny Girl, On the Twentieth Century) and standalone concerts (like Bombshell and the recent Disney On Broadway)?

Maybe this is also a stupid question, but do the logistics change if the concert is more staged & choreographed?

Most of these (the big, legit ones anyways) are sanctioned by an organization associated with AEA called Theatre Authority. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe they put restrictions on staging and choreography, but they do have a limit of 25 hours of rehearsal time. That's probably why you don't often see much choreo.

Have you see this documentary of how the Dreamgirls concert came to be from Seth Rudetsky? He doesn't get into the nitty gritty business side of things, but it's an incredibly fun and wonderfully illuminating look back on a very special moment of time.
