I feel awful for all those who just re-opened and were hoping to continue through the holidays.

This is why can't have nice things.

There's been plenty of disappointment. Theaters looked safe with the protocols they have in place. Check out social media and people are comparing being safe inside a theater and how the streets of London are still dealing with crowds.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Obviously this is awful for those who are no unemployed but I don't have any sympathy with the producers really. This situation was highly predictable way back in the summer. We are in the middle of an influenza pandemic and they have chosen to open shows in the middle of winter flu season after the best part of a year of restrictions constantly changing. Viruses are not predictable so asking for guarantees from the government is unrealistic. Theatre's having to close at some point over the winter could be seen a mile off.

London is being told by the government that they don’t need face coverings outside either, so if you look at videos of the streets it’s insane with thousands of people crowding and shopping with no masks.

Which is sad for the theaters, which overly cautious. The arts always gets the shaft.

According to Charlie Stemp, the PANTOLAND production he was starring in at the Palladium was forced to close after only a handful of performances. He spent more time rehearsing it than performing it. Sad but understandable during the world situation.

The fact that they were allowed to open earlier this month at all, with covid numbers something like three to four times higher than what they were at the height of the first wave back in spring, is complete bizarre to me.

I think the blame is on the Mischief Theatre which posted this "five days ago" so either 9 or 10 December:
