The nominees will be announced in about fifteen minutes. Any guesses for musical theatre album or any familiar actors/performers with the potential to be nominated?

I don't feel like offering predictions, because there's a lot that I haven't listened to, especially a lot of these jukebox musicals that released albums. But my personal picks would probably be:

--Amelie

--Sing Street

--Cambodian Rock Band

--Soft Power

--The Mad Ones

I’m shocked to find A Strange Loop missing. Also, six nominees means there must have been a tie for fifth.

I'm surprised Christian Borle wasn't included as a principal soloist for Little Shop.  I'm pleasantly surprised by this category - in a year without a lot of theatre, it's easy to forget how incredible the Broadway and Off-Broadway landscape was in late 2019 and even in the first few months of 2020.

I’m very happy to see Soft Power on the list. I was afraid it wouldn’t get into a field with bigger names available to check off. Even if you thought the show was odd, the score as preserved here is really lovely.

So am I. Why wouldn’t he be included?

I take it that the West End version of Amelie is vastly superior to the Broadway production.

It seems with the composer and lyricist nominated, Amélie is 51% new material according to the Grammy powers-that-be.

I haven’t listened to all of Amelie, but from what I’ve heard, the London version is almost unrecognizable from the Broadway version, and mostly for the better.

The real question is do Grammy insiders Jagged Little Pill and American Utopia cancel each other out and make way for a surprise. If not I would expect David Byrne to take this.

I expect this to be between American Utopia (bolstered by the well-received HBO Max filmed version) and Jagged Little Pill (a former Album of the Year winner). It would be exciting to see the other albums be competitive though.
