According to IMDb, julia knowles, the screen director of this also directed the British reality show the greatest dancer. Matthew Morrison was a judge on that for both seasons. The last episode aired just before the pandemic hit. That might explain how that casting originated.

You know it's bad when you are begging the story to get to Morrison because this is cringy. I really had hopes for O'Hare but... woof. Like wooooooof.

Grinch portrayal to be bitter bitchy queen party of 1 because his hair, make up, and uh costume comes from community theater fire sale- no gravitas, no voice, no idea who this character is he is trying to portray and it’s slow and lazy and pick up the lines.

Yeah it’s a no from me all around. The set needs some depth and it’s just super slow. Morrison doesn’t suit the part. He’s a romantic lead not a character actor.

I give it this so far, the children performers are working their little behinds off and making it enjoyable whenever they are on the screen. Their joy reminds you this is suppose to be a family Christmas musical event.

This loses all momentum with the commercial breaks. The first 20-30 minutes of the show are one big sequence that ends with the Grinch deciding to steal Christmas. The pacing here is hard to get past.

I think for these musical events they should follow the pbs model of having fewer but longer commercial breaks.

They’ve also adapted the script to include more dialogue, which slows the pace. Several moments of lyric changes as well.

Just made it through the song with all the kids, max, and the grinch (I don’t know the name of it). The kids and Booboo are KILLING IT. Denis seems so disinterested. Matthew seems like... uncomfortable?

His interpretation of the grinch seems like what a romantic lead thinks playing a villain is suppose to look like. Like. The last little bit when he popped out of nowhere right in front of the camera before commercial break was just SO CRINGE
