Oh the organization that initially refused to do regular testing of its cast members? Shocking.

Disney World also is well past the 25% capacity they've been saying they're sticking to.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I guarantee this happened because of urging from the state (not that Disney isn't ruthlessly capitalist on it's own). Florida has no state income tax, so their income relies almost solely on sales and property tax. With no theme parks, the tourist dollars dry up, and Florida is plunged into unprecedented bankruptcy.

"Disney World also is well past the 25% capacity they've been saying they're sticking to."

I was there three days this week and trust me it was not over 25% capacity, granted it was not a weekend. My wife and I basically walked on to every ride with very few exceptions. Even rides like "Space Mountain" only had 30 minute wait and that is probably due to the cleaning of the ride more than the actual crowd.

Correct me if I am wrong but the Governor of Florida removed all caps on capacity and even with that Disney is sticking to the 25% capacity.

This is an article about covering up the number of Covid cases in Disney Parks, not about park capacity. About how cast members are forbidden to tell colleagues when they are diagnosed with Covid. About how the philosophy of not telling people what's going on impacts people's decisions.

After all, if nobody can talk numbers, then cast members can keep up the facade of everything being fine, even if everything is horrible. Because they don't know any better. The public knowing even less means that park goers can not make informed decisions about what risk level they are comfortable with. But you know, as long as there's a hand sanitizer squirter or whatever.

As a smart article in The Atlantic put it, there's a difference between feeling safe and being safe. In the degraded health of this degraded country, the degraded public is now sharing whether or not they are "comfortable" with things that may not be preventing disease spread at all.

"The pandemic has broken Americans’ understanding of what to fear."

Namo, that is a very good article. It actually deserves it's own thread and conversation.

Was just going through this with my extended family about Thanksgiving. My ex and I (We are best friends) told everyone that we were not attending a planned Thanksgiving gathering. They decided to have a ZOOM meeting to discuss it. We both said we would not be attending the meeting. Our minds were made up. No meeting happened and the gathering was cancelled.

Regarding Disney. I have friends who have connections with the par and have said that employees have had to deal with the anti-maskers. Heard an employee was even spit on by a guest and could do nothing about it. Reading the article and hearing what is going on internally made me lose a lot of respect for Disney. I know a few hardcore Disney fans that are really upset about this but are still planning to go to the park.

Not disagreeing with anything your friends told you but my experience was totally different. There were no anti-maskers and everybody stayed at the social distant markers. Matter of fact, it is quite nice now waiting on a line without people right next to you. Also, we took skyliner into two parks which allowed us to sit in gondola by ourselves which was about as safe as you can get.

" This is an article about covering up the number of Covid cases in Disney Parks, not about park capacity. "

ACL2006 made comment about park capacity so I just responded since I have recent experience being in Disneyworld.

Yes, I hear the experience for the patrons is good. But a lot going on internally that patrons don't know about. Good your experience was great but it is a big place so things could have been happening elsewhere that you were not aware of. And it seems employees are not allowed to make a big deal over anything so you could have just walked by something happening and not known.

Your posts pretty much describe what they are saying about keeping patrons happy. But evidently it isn't the happiest place on earth internally, which is what the article is about.
