I think this will be the best season yet. It will be interesting to see how Peter Morgan handles Thatcher. In the generally well reviewed play The Audience, many critics complained that he made a caricature of her. But seeing as how he has his life partner playing her now, I bet he wrote a much richer character.
I was hooked on series 4. Was going to space it out but ended up watching one right after the other. Was a great series and now have to wait for series 5.
"I hope your Fanny is bigger than my Peter."
Mary Martin to Ezio Pinza opening night of Fanny.
I'm halfway through episode three and I think it's the best season so far. This is the season we've all been waiting for and they are not disappointing so far.
I am up to episode 3. I really love this series but for some reason this season isn't making me want to watch the whole thing in a day or two. I have a feeling it is because we are now in the part of their lives that are freshest, I will say, in my mind. I have known their history/story, but this played out on our TV's. The quality of the show is still high (The cinematography just blows me away) but it has been 2 days since I have watched it.
I think this season was the weakest one so far. Not that it was "weak" per se, just the weakest. But I still love it to death and absolutely watched the first couple episodes with tea and scones in hand because it's the little joys right now ;P Emma is a GEM, I can't even fathom having the responsibility of playing such an icon who's so unique.
I agree JennH. The production values stayed at their high level. The acting continues to be great. I am just taken with the cinematography in this show. It is just outstanding. But something was just off. It feels like it screeched to a halt a bit for the Diana/Charles storline. And I wasn't crazy about the script for their story. It felt kinda "ripped from the headlines".
The two pretty much scowled from the time they finally got together on through the season. They breezed over Fergie and Andrew's marriage. I actually forgot about the other 2 sons until they threw in that "favourites" episode. I feel like there could have been less of Bowles. She could have been eluded to and more time could have been spent on Thatcher or even Fergie and Andrew. Even knowing this show is not completely accurate, something just felt off. I read an article that said there was enough truth for them to not have to fictionalize events. I agree. Just my opinion.
