Like many people, I've been discovering and rediscovering great theatre moments captured on film on YouTube. I had never seen The Phil Donahue Show, that's before my time. But, WOW! It seems to be a panel type of situation? Does anyone know how these performances worked as part of his show?

Randy Graff singing "I Dreamed a Dream" and "You Can Always Count on Me" = Musical Theatre perfection! Brilliant performer matched with brilliant material.

The Phil Donahue Show was a standard format talk show like The Oprah Winfrey Show - one topic episodes.  Guests ranged from an author, regular folks with issues, a celebrity, and on rare occasion, a musical artist.  Phil Donahue loved featuring Broadway, so he would on occasion, showcase a new Broadway show, performer, etc.  These clips you posted are just that - a showcase episode of Broadway musical artists.   This wasn't a standard part of his show.  His show the next day most likely could have been about teenage moms who hate their neighbors or it could have been the author of a new novel.

You should check out the show where he had the entire cast of A Chorus Line.

I've seen the "A Chorus Line" reunion show, with the original cast. My favorite part is when Kelly Bishop,Nancy Lane, and Kay Cole sing "At the Ballet". Several of their former cast mates got emotional. It's on YouTube.

In March 1990, the surviving original cast of A CHORUS LINE reunited for this special episode of The Phil Donahue Show, marking the closing of the show’s original Broadway run of 15 years.  Unfortunately, this isn’t posted as one long post on YouTube but the other parts are linked.
