Just curious what your views are of when Broadway will re-open? You think the March 2021 date will hold firm? I doubt it will be sooner (I wish it was). There’s a little part of me that thinks it will be after March 2021. I mean, they can’t even open movie theaters in NYC or LA. How do we think they could open a Broadway theater? And what tourists are going to want to bring their families to NYC? At some point, if NYC wants tourists back, they are going to have to have  on a real campaign! Thoughts?

(on a side note, for me personally, I’m hoping to participate in a vaccine trial with my immunology doctor specialist. See if they have any of those in your area if interested)

Also, since you are a Broadway fan as well, how are you holding up these day? Have you found other substitutes for theater? Are you and your family staying healthy? I hope so!

I still recommend listening to the New Yorker Fiction Podcast and the New Yorker Writer’s Voice Podcast. It’s like listening to a small play in your mind. It’s the closest theater type experience I can find these days, and some of these stories are amazing! I even subscribed to the New Yorker so that I could read the commentary from present authors who read their stories in the Writer’s Voice podcast, since that podcast offers no commentary about the story (the Fiction podcast offers commentary on the podcast itself)

This has been discussed plenty in other threads, but: No. Broadway will not open in March and it will be much later.

Fauci recently explained that Fall 2021 is probably as early as possible for a new vaccine to be approved and widely distributed. And by and large, Broadway will not be able to reopen until that vaccine.

There is no way for Broadway to implement proper social distancing while still being profitable. I do think there is a chance that non-profit houses open first, and they could open earlier than the fall. Mainly because they rely on donors, so there is an avenue available to them to reduce their house capacities to about 25% and implement social distancing measures. It's also a plus that these places rely more on local audiences than tourists. However there are still hurdles: Unions are coming out with plenty of safety measures of their own, the local audiences tend to be older aka more susceptible to the virus, and singing is still a "super spreading" activity (which I wish the live performers at the outdoor bar down the street from me would realize). There are many folks holding onto hope for summer 2021 for reopening. But fall is more realistic. No one actually thinks March is going to happen.

I don't remember Fauci saying that. What I did read is that he said fall or winter of 2021 will possibly be the soonest people can attend maskless. That is if the vaccines come out and are approved as predicted now. If they do, it will take until next fall to get everyone vaccinated.

It will open AT LEAST a year from now- I'm guessing sometime in the fourth quarter of 2021, just in time for the holiday season.

Oh look, a bibu!

Broadway will reopen, probably, Fall 2021.

There's absolutely no way that every single show will be reopened by March.

That being said, the general rumor is that shows will reopen one-by-one (maybe not *literally* one by one, but they definitely will stagger their re-openings). Houses with a smaller capacity may get to reopen around spring if we're very lucky, but I doubt there will be a full reopening until late 2021 at best.

I follow Moulin Rouge Broadway on Instagram and over the last few days there have posted a few 'we'll be back' messages. Don't know if that's signaling a return soon or just to remind people about the show.

IMO, i don't see Broadway opening until later in 2021.

In response to when I think Broadway will reopen, I normally quote Madeline Khan in 'Mixed Nuts': "well I will be at your house sometime before next christmas, but that's all I have to say"

IDK

Now if and when it returns it will.be a different animal .

Hard to have thoughts when what you wrote is pretty incomprehensible. The only part of interest that I understood is that you were in hospital and are recuperating. Good. Be well.

Anybody know how the Shubert and Nederlander Organization is doing these days? What are they saying behind the scenes?

Earlier someone laughed about this being the 4000 ish post about when Broadway would come back. I realize nobody can say with certainty when Broadway will come back. But I guess what I’m looking for here is insight from theater insiders another what is going on? Or not going on? Being that a lot of us live all over the world and not in NYC, for those of you who work (or worked) in NYC theater, us “out there” want to hear from you all, what’s going on? To us out here, it looks like not much is going on.

The short, honest answer is it’s still too soon to say. Also unless I somehow missed something, I don’t recall seeing any announcement regarding a potential reopening being pushed to March - last I heard was end of June just that the shutdown had been extended to (at least) January. (That is not to say I think it will come back in January, but pretty sure that was the last update, not March). Also I know a lot of people are saying we’re probably looking at a staggered reopening, in which case I think we could easily see some shows start to come back as early as early 2021. That said, there’s a lot that can happen between now and then (for better or for worse) so it’s still anyone’s guess at this point.

June is the next date to be announced, but everyone thinks September is more realistic.

An expert on The Daily said that he expects a majority of Americans to get a vaccine by late spring / early summer, since there are currently three trials that are looking good. Let's say each show needs a month of rehearsal / tech to get back in the swing... I'm calling August 2021.

I mean, maybe The Music Man starts first in May/June and slowly the other shows start open up through the Summer?

No one - I repeat, no one - is opening until June 2, at the earliest. Most expect that to be pushed back again.

No need to repeat the same words, thanks so much. Since you just randomly pulled that date from your own brain, and cannot back it up with any actual sources, I will believe things when they are confirmed.
