Cuties on Netflix

Has anyone seen this yet on Netflix? I just finished it and thought it was a very good movie, entertaining and just very well done across the board.

Has anyone else seen it? I know its getting Shit thrown its way due to Netflix messing up with the Initial poster.

Am I the only one who found it sad that many right Wingers such as Ted Cruz and others are calling for it to be pulled from Netflix without seeing the film and refusing To do so.

Just finished watching it. There is a lot to unpack with this film. 

Not surprised at the "reception" even though a lot of people slamming it refuse to watch it. I don't see people like Ted Cruz watching foreign films. And it shows just what we have become over here. Also, maybe Ted has some of his own issues staring at him just from watching the trailer.

I have watched and have mostly preferred foreign films for many many years. They go there when telling a story. A lot of times foreign countries are behind us in pop culture. What is big over there has come and gone over here. I thought that was evident with the mention of the Kardashians in this film. But most of this film was like holding up a big mirror towards the west. It is not like we have not seen young girls act like this here in the states. 

This movie had a lot going on. Pop culture, puberty, religion, social media, tradition/culture and just being a child. Foreign films don't always explain thing to you visually and sometimes use visuals that you have to figure out as part of the story.

Had any of the people slamming this movie without seeing it had actually watched it, they would have seen how adults reacted to these young girls. I am wondering if over there girls this young act this way. I think their really young age is the only thing that put me off a bit. But maybe that was the filmmakers intent.

I probably should have waited for a bit before I came back to comment to let it all kind of flesh out in my head. But those are just my immediate random thoughts. I do suggest that if you have any interest in seeing this film, you do so. The thing that it's detractors are missing is the message.

I loved it and found it very moving.

I felt for all the girls who clearly had pretty horrible lives.

I would HATE to be a child growing up the way the world is now and I thought it portrayed that very accurately.

The Mother's storyline was also heartbreaking.

It's a very intelligent and layered film which is beautifully acted, shot and directed.

Yes it's confronting, but it should be provoking meaningful conversation not faux outrage.

Oh, the mom's story just broke my heart also. And you know she was not comfortable with the situation. I think the auntie had a lot to do with her allowing it. I almost cried at the end.
