I was recently thinking of how Id like to see a remake of The Crucible at some point, as I found Arthur Millers adaptation of his play to be overly choppy and ruined the atmosphere and build up of the original play. And Im thinking, if someone were to make another film version of this story, who would you want to star in it? After mulling it over, my personal picks would be:
I think your suggestions are excellent. I have to admit that I am a member of the 'how did Adam Driver become famous' club, but I think he has the right seriousness to play John Proctor. My one quibble...Florence Pugh managed to do very well as the young Amy, but I think she may be a little too old for the role. I definitely think she would give a solid performance in this pivotal, but actually pretty small, role.
Adam Driver as John Proctor --> Love this! He'd be great!
Michelle Williams as Elizabeth Proctor --> I'm in the minority here, but I despise Williams as an actor, so that's a "no" from me. I'd rather see maybe: Lupita Nyong'o, Rosamund Pike, Jessica Chastain, Carey Mulligan
Andrew Scott as John Hale --> Love it!
Florence Pugh as Abigail Williams --> Love it! Though I'd also like to see Saoirse Ronan reprise her role. I had issues with her performance, but I enjoyed it, and I actually think she would do the role even more justice on film. I also think Elle Fanning or Zendaya would do a great job with it.
Jeremy Irons as Judge Danforth --> Love it!
Michael Stuhlbarg as Samuel Parris --> Love it!
Eliza Scanlen as Mary Warren --> Love it! I'd also like to see Millie Bobbie Brown, Joey King, or Maisie Williams.
You could say Pugh is too old to play Abigail, but she pulled off the even younger Amy, so I think she can still do it. And it’s funny, cause I was between Lupita and Williams for Elizabeth. I agree Lupita would be fantastic, although I highly disagree with the Williams dissing. And for the record, Scanlen as Mary came to me because of her performance in To Kill a Mockingbird. She plays the abused accuser very well.

UGH, I didn't even realize until this moment that Scanlen was in TKAM. I had every intention of going back to see the show with the new cast, but I kept putting it off, and then COVID. Now I'm even more frustrated...
She was great as Maya Ewell. I was a bit surprised to see her take the role as it really only has the one big scene, although she’s present for the all three courtroom moments. I personally think she could’ve been an excellent Scout, though the understudy who I saw was stellar.

I was thinking Isabelle Fuhrmann, but Garner would also be excellent.
I'm willing to go to bat for the Ryder/Lewis adaptation - I haven't seen it recently but I've really enjoyed it each time I have. Certainly more than what ever the everlovingfvck was going on in the Van Hove revival.
