Kad said: "I think that Kimball is a troubled person, and if things I’ve long heard about him are true, then many folks in the industry are probably aware of it."

Many are. His sobriety was what got him back into people’s good graces, and now, well...maybe Bryan Fenkart can step into Come From Away?

Side note - something about this wording in the JustJared article really tickled me: “For those that don't know, Chad had his breakout role on Broadway while playing a cow in Into the Woods.”

I am big. It’s the REVIVALS that got small.

Sutton Ross said: "Um, anything that is not apart of your professional life is your private one. That's what I meant. He gets to have opinions and can chose to have social media, it's just strange that because he isn't like most people on Broadway regarding his views, he gets a whole thread devoted to trashing him. He's not one of the bad guys on Broadway and the attempt to shed light on his views is pathetic."

You are right, he has a right to his opinions. But we equally have a right to publicly disagree with them. As such, we have the right to advocate a boycott (if you will) of him. He doesn't have the right to be free from criticism.

^^^ what Fosse76 said.

It isn't a huge deal to me that Kimball is a Trump supporter or even that he has repeatedly donated to him. It's that he thinks his right to sing supersedes the safety of his fellow man. His colleagues. His fellow worshipers. He thinks he is above the law.

Worst of all is his interest in Qanon. That is simply sheer insanity, and it's dangerous.

Also? When you post something on twitter, it ceases to be "private".

Holy God, I just spit out my macha. You have literally taken a quote from me from FOUR months ago? Did you just read the first page of this farcical thread or.....? Yeah, check out good old number 122 for me before ever quoting me again. Thanks so much!

I guess that's what happens when you open a thread, thinking you're on the most recent page, but are only on the first!

That said, you did say it, and the fact you refer to this as a farcical thread, makes it worthy of a response.

Yeah, I did say it. But, shockingly, people can actually change their opinions and minds about stuff. I know, I know, thinking cancel culture is bullsh*t is such a foreign concept around here but here we are.

People proclaiming someone is canceled doesn't work. Human beings cannot be canceled. Sorry. If you don't want to give your money to a Broadway show because a person is in it that you hate, cool. But, the constant research to "figure out" who is evil (aka doesn't agree with you) is the most pathetic, miserable thing in the world. I'd say get a life but it's 2020 and this is apparently all people have to do.

This from one of the people out to cancel Randy Rainbow, while here saying "people can't be cancelled." LOL.

Exactly. I wish they could go join Kimball and get lost.

It's telling, isn't it, when someone intensely wants someone who offends them cancelled, but is aghast at/derisive of cancellation when they themselves aren't offended by the person in question. Morality seems to be merging into self-absorption in such a case (essentially, "I demand satisfaction of my needs, but don't give a damn about anyone else" is the idea). With all due respect to Emerson, a little consistency can sometimes be for the best.

I don't care for hate or for people who use their talent to promote hate. I don't participate in cancellation, but I do avoid that kind of person, and don't mind if, as you suggest, they all get lost.

There is only one person who can bring about an end to his shaming and so far as I know, he has not repented and begged his maker for forgiveness.

Let me ask you to ponder the import of what you have written here. People die because of the egocentrism exhibited in the offensive tweet. Should we stop shaming the drunk driver who kills innocent people because of their action? Look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself what you are proposing here.

I also feel like it's worth mentioning that even if people stop actively posting about Kimball, in this or any other thread, that doesn't mean that he's magically in the clear. At a certain point, there will be nothing new to say on the subject, but people will continue to remember his words and actions, and judge them accordingly.

Are you implying that he...shouldn’t feel shame for what he’s putting out there? Right now? After so many lives have been lost?

Yeah seriously. He deserves to be shamed for blatantly saying he would break covid restrictions. I'm not the type to ever message someone hate on Twitter, but I don't blame anyone for wanting to shame him. 250k+ people have died and the theatre industry has been destroyed because of people like him, so yeah, people have a right to be pissed.

This **** is not funny. Covid denialism killed my friend. My friend had a huge comorbidity (severe diabetes) even though he wasn't that old (69). He loved Trump and said he wasn't going to change his life because of "communist China." Last I heard from him someone in his synagogue had tested positive. The next time I called him (maybe two weeks later) his family called me back to tell me he'd passed away from covid that morning. His family was hysterical and heartbroken.

I'm really sorry for you and your friend's family's loss. That he didn't believe COVID was real (because of an insidious administration's lies) doesn't mean he deserved to die.

I don't want Chad Kimball to die. I just want people to wise up, and I think it's entirely right to tell people when what they say is demonstrably untrue. I think it's also all right to refuse to support the work of someone who is not wised up. That's quite different from wanting them dead. Destroying those who won't "play ball" is Trump's thing, not mine.

I don't think so either. Just saying a celebrity broadcasting these views is actually dangerous.

And IRL it absolutely can get you fired. I know an ICU nurse who was fired after he posted on FB about how hospitals just use covid as an insurance scam.

And remember, please, that what he did (state an intention to violate a public safety law) would be grounds for dismissal without regard to one's celebrity (which of course makes it worse). If a waiter posted on social media that they were not going to wash their hands before returning to work because they were not going to submit to power, how long do you think it would take to send them packing?

Kimball said he wasn't going to wear a mask seeing in church. Can't figure out how that would get him fired from anything except maybe the choir. He isn't going to be fired from any theater work because right now there is no theater work, so the argument is moot.

But my point in commenting in the first place was that it offended me that someone here was told their friend's death was "poetic justice." Even on these very cruel boards, that seems a bridge too far.
