I would love to see an Anastasia movie since the show was so different from the animated film.

I would like the Beetlejuice musical made into an adaptation, especially if the OBC could reprise their roles.  Leslie Kritzer as Delia and Miss Argentina along with Alex Brightman as Beetlejuice I would love to see again.  Maybe add in a cameo from Michael Keaton for fun as well.

The one at the top of my wish list is Once on This Island. I feel like it could be the movie to do what other studios have been attempting to do for a few years now... give us a "mermaid" tale with the dark ending on the big screen. Yes, I KNOW it's more then just a Little Mermaid adaptation but that's what makes it a perfect property to slip past the mouse's watchful eye. I mean it's it a little funny how there have been a number of studios over the years that have tried to get a Little Mermaid adaptation that is true to the original story off the ground but nothing ever comes of it and then Disney launches their live action version of THEIR happy ending telling of it? Once On This Island is a perfect way to slip a story with that original, darker ending, without facing the wrath of Disney against it because it's NOT Mermaid. It just happens to be a very similar story.

I also wish that Disney was a bit more open to darker stories because I have often thought how Aida would be a great one to adapt. A pop star in the role of Aida like Beyonce or Janelle Monae would be amazing. But that dark ending. Disney doesn't usually go there on the big screen. The one time they did with Into the Woods it kinda blew up in their face. Those that don't know the source material think they went to far while those of of us that do know it say they didn't go far enough. I fear the same would happen with an Aida adaptation.

I'd love that one. Who can direct?

I'd LOVE to see a gritty, more realistic film remake of RENT.

Once on This Island-  I want an animated version with the revival cast coming back for their roles. I think animation could really bring the world to life.

Kiss of the Spider Woman- The musical numbers take place in the characters minds which as we've seen with Chicago is a fun way to play around with what you can get away with.

Mame- except I want Audura in the lead role.

^^Ditto.

This is not likely to happen from a business perspective, but I wouldn't mind seeing film adaptations of promising shows that arguably have never quite been done 'right' onstage despite endless adjustments, such as 'Candide' or 'Chess'. Everything else has been tried, why not try adapting them to film and see if they work better in that medium.

Remakes:

-- A Little Night Music (Kate Winslet)

-- Mame

-- Man of La Mancha

-- The Producers (casting may be an issue, since Nathan Lane has already been in the rotten movie, and who could replace him??)

-- Nine (such great material and such a bad movie.  I truly believe Kate Hudson's big number is one of the worst in movie history

-- Oklahoma (based on the Daniel Fish vision)

First Time:

-- Miss Saigon

-- Follies

-- She Loves Me

-- Spring Awakening

-- Merrily We Roll Along

Though you won’t see it for another 20 some years since it’s theoretically being shot in order AND in time

I'm officially super excited about it and I plan to remain excited for the next 20 years. I wonder if they got to film the first/last scene before everything shut down.

And while we're talking about adaptations that have already been announced, I kind of think Wicked could make a great movie. Maybe a better movie than stage musical... But they'd need to completely rewrite the book and not be slavish to the original material.

The Wicked movie is not gonna be simply the stage production in a film version. They're reworking it.

That's right.  I forgot.  However, since I am now 70, I do not hold much hope for seeing it.  IF I remember, it is going to be filmed over 20 years.

I'll be nervous for as long as Winnie Holzman's the only credited screenwriter. I wouldn't normally say this, but I hope she's only there for legal reasons.
