With everyone performing celebrations of the Tonys this year - I thought we could have our own here.

I'll start with the two that I always go back to...

So many! I'm sure there are some I'm forgetting, but these are the two that come to mind now:

Bernadette Peters - Rose's Turn

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCU2Wd4crr0

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

Boy From Oz back in 2004. I still remember how amazed I was by Hugh's improv with Sarah Jessica Parker and how all of this was live!

I second Grand Hotel--Michael Jeter was so incredible.....

Also, I still get chills every time I watch the Prologue to Ragtime:

I am focusing specifically on numbers from the nominated shows.  If not, I would include Lansbury and Arthur singing Bosom Buddies and a couple of opening numbers, which were spectacular.

Top 6:

Jennifer Holiday -- And I Am Telling You -- Dreamgirls

Bernadette Peters -- Rose's Turn -- Gypsy

Cast -- All That Jazz / Sweet Honey Rag -- Chicago (Revival)

Cast -- Battle of Yorktown -- Hamilton

Cast -- A New Argentina -- Evita (Original)

Cast -- One Day More -- Les Miserables

Not great quality, but back in 1987 I was mesmerized by this Starlight Express performance at the Tony's:

I mean, has there ever been anything else like this on the Tony Awards before or since?

(Showing my youth) Patti Lupone singing Everything’s Coming Up Roses is the first Tony’s performance I remember watching live. And it’s still rather brilliant.

You’ve got my 2 as well. Jennifer holiday stopped the show. That happens so rarely.
