The 2020 Kids Company Master Class Series has gone virtual! Aspiring young performers 7 years and older are invited to register for a series of 4 Master Classes taught over Zoom video chat by professional artists who have performed on the Goodspeed stage, in NYC, and around the country. The Kids Company Master Class Series will provide one-of-a-kind live, online instruction in various styles of musical theatre dance, acting, and vocal performance, in which students will learn new techniques, receive individualized feedback from our faculty, and hone their skills in a supportive environment.

REGISTRATION

Classes are limited to five students per Master Class. All classes will have a wait list once full, and additional class sessions may be added.

DANCES OF A CHORUS LINE WITH GABI STAPULA

Michael Bennett choreographed a number of notable Broadway musicals such as DreamgirlsCompany, and Follies, but he is best known as the original director and choreographer of A Chorus Line. In this master class, Ms. Stapula will teach a section of choreography from A Chorus Line and demonstrate how Mr. Bennett used dance to tell a story and develop characters.

GABI STAPULA is a performer, choreographer, educator, and forever student living in NYC. She is currently the director/choreographer for The Muny Kids Troupe 2020 while serving as associate choreographer/dance captain for Sound of Music and Dance Captain for Seven Brides for Seven Brothers in The Muny’s 102nd Season. She recently performed in the reading of Wanderer that is heading to Papermill Playhouse Spring 2021. She has been seen on stage at The Goodspeed Opera House, Theater Under the Stars, The Rev, and Arena Stage, in Washington DC. As a choreographer she has worked as an associate for The Tonight Show with Jimmy FallonSaturday Night Live, Hermès Huereka Fashion week, and events for Robin Hood Foundation and Target. She has taught at schools, studios and theaters around the country and all over ZOOM! Gabi is a proud member of AEA and the #MSAfam. MASTERING THE MUSICAL AUDITION

A 20-year veteran of the musical theatre industry, Mr. Beaman is also a sought-out audition coach in NYC. His approach to audition coaching asks students to reflect on what unique traits they bring to the table and guides them toward choosing and presenting audition material best suited them as individuals. In this class, he will provide students with the tools they need in order to present their best work in an audition setting.

NOTE: Students in this class will be required to prepare a musical theatre song to work on with Mr. Beaman and should have a karaoke track of the song available to use during the class. JAMES BEAMAN is an award-winning actor who celebrates his 30th year in show business in 2020. He is also a theatre educator, master teacher and acting coach whose clients have achieved success on Broadway, in theatre across the country, and in film and television. At Goodspeed, Jamie has appeared in Annie Get Your Gun, How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and Mame, and he is the co-creator of the Goodspeed Teen Audition Intensive, which he taught for three years. He has led master classes at Orlando Shakespeare Theatre and Maltz Jupiter Theatre, and, as an Artist in Residence at Matthew Corozine Studio in New York, has led his Shakespeare text intensive, “Decoding Shakespeare.” He holds a BFA from Boston University School for the Arts and an MFA from the Academy for Classical Acting at The George Washington University. CONQUERING THE COLD READ

In this acting-focused audition workshop, Mr. Hoffman will prepare students for cold readings – performing a scene from a show with little or no preparation beforehand. He will demystify this aspect of auditioning by teaching students techniques to quickly analyze a character and make bold choices that will help them stand out from the crowd.

BRIAN MICHAEL HOFFMAN starred as Horton in the Off-Broadway revival of Seussical and is thrilled to be a part of Goodspeed’s Master Class Series after his time in East Haddam last summer as Jiggs Thomas in Because Of Winn Dixie, a role he also played in the Delaware Theatre Company and Alabama Shakespeare Festival productions. Tap has been part of the musical theatre since it became popularly known as “tap dance” a hundred years ago. This master class led by Ms. Pope, a former Radio City Rockette and veteran of tap musicals such as Irving Berlin’s White Christmas (National Tour) and 42nd Street (Goodspeed), will explore rhythm, style, and characterization to expand your tap dance horizons!

NOTE: This class will not focus primarily on technique or learning tap vocabulary. Experience with tap dance recommended.
