Little night music dream cast

While I think my casting has been consistent for a while (Julie Andrews, Cate Blachett, TImothee Chalamet), recently after watching the Sondheim 90th. I would also me curious to see Donna Murphy as Desiree.

What would be your dream casting (or realistic casting)

But if it hasn’t already been done I agree Cate Blanchett or Kate Winslet as Desiree.

For Desiree, I’d love to see Cate Blanchett, Kate Winslet, Nicole Kidman, Michelle Pfeiffer, Angela Bassett, Donna Murphy

For Madame Armfeldt, I’d love Julie Andrews, Chita Rivera, Betty Buckley, Ellen Burstyn, Cicely Tyson, Judi Dench, Shirley MacLaine, Liza Minnelli. It’s a shame Barbara Cook never played the role.

I’d also love to see Benanti as Charlotte and Patrick Wilson as Fredrik.

I really really long to see Mary Beth Peil play Madame Armfeldt. I know she did a concert of it in Greece or somewhere somewhat recently, but she would make a perfect Madame on broadway.

Morocco, and yes, I agree, she's such an underrated actress. Also it's always nice when people go full circle and play both Desiré and Madame Armfeldt. I think the only people to have done that are Glynis Johns, Peil, Penny Fuller and Daphne Anderson, who understudied both roles in the original London production. 

My dream Madame Armfeldt is probably Judi Dench, but I'd really love to see her played by someone you can look at and still see the courtesan she was. Most Madame Armfeldts look like retired nannies, I'd like to see someone a bit more glamorous tackle the role. Eartha Kitt and Dixie Cart would have been marvellous. Jessica Lange perhaps?

Also, the 2009 Studio 54 concert cast was pretty dreamy: Natasha Richardson (Desirée), Vanessa Redgrave (Madame Armfeldt), Victor Garber (Henrick), Christine Baranski (Charlotte), Jill Paice (Anne), Steven Pasquale (Henrick) and Benjamin Walker (Frid)

I honestly wish that Ann-Margret had played Desiree at one point, and think she could still be a very effective Madame Armfeldt. I don't know if she's still dealing with the mobility issues she had during her tour of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (can't believe that tour was almost 20 years ago now), but that wouldn't be nearly as much of an issue for Madame Armfeldt as it was for Miss Mona.
