There's a thread about this series on the Off-Topic board, but, considering the Broadway involvement (Patti, Jeremy Pope, Darren Criss), I think it deserves a thread here, too.

Cannot wait. Jeremy Pope really made an impression last year, and the entire cast is pretty stellar. The aesthetics are all there, so hopefully the storyline is too.

Ryan Murphy got Pope's ass now in HOLLYWOOD and will really make him a STAR

I do have to admit, I’m a sucker for all things Ryan Murphy. I’ve watched through “Glee” more than I care to admit. I’m excited for this.

Looks like it will be an interesting companion piece to Tarantino's ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD

Love the cast.

Murphy is one-note and usually only has one great season in him.  The rest of it is vanity garbage.

There's light at the end of the tunnel-----and it's May 1st.

Rock Hudson---a hay seed !---Love it, and all the other 'corny' [get it?] dialogue.

Definitely checks off all the boxes for cliche storylines. You can only reinvent the wheel so many times.
I do like some of Murphy’s work though so would be interesting to see what he does differently with this.

I am trying to remember what book I read that talked about the gas stations being a hot spot back then and aspiring actors wanting to get a job at one.  Can anyone help me remember?!!

Netflix’s HOLLYWOOD is a surrealistic fabrication so it peppers fantasy with fact. This is a fantasy that never happened so Ryan Murphy is creating a Hollywood scenario that is sheer wishful thinking. This is not a docu-series whatsoever, though it appears many assume it is.

As is Murphy’s THE POLITICIAN, this is sheer extreme reality and not a standard drama. Will it have countless WTF? and unrealistic moments?  Absolutely. Just enjoy the ride, folks. There is no hidden political agenda. It’s fun fluff with a fantastic cast that loves to “play”, which is why everyone wants to work for Ryan Murphy. He gives you the chance to be extreme and play full-on. This is why Jessica Lange keeps working with him. It’s fun. It’s ridiculous. It’s extreme.

When are people going to realize Ryan Murphy is a hack?
He casts a bunch of people we like and then wastes them every time.

There are so many more talented show runners and writers in tv
Why is HE the one always getting more shows?

And I always end up feeling like he makes broadway musicals look worse and stupid.

How does he waste them? Both seasons of American Crime Story and Feud: Bette and Joan had TONS of acting nominations between them, with several wins, and Billy Porter won the Emmy for Pose. I don't think Ryan Murphy is a great writer or director, but, as a producer, he knows how to deliver an effective product, and a lot of that has to do with the almost uniformly excellent performances.

He wastes them on giving them stupid stuff. They got the acting nods cause THEY were good. Not the material.

He’s a bad writer who has no sense of tone

You do realize that he writes and directs very little on his shows, right? And I'm pretty sure that his actors didn't feel wasted, considering some of them had their careers explode after working with him.

He writes and directs a lot of it actually.

Him and Brad Falchuck co-write many episodes for every show he’s done.

I think American Crime Story he was more a director.

But there is without a question Ryan Murphy is a huge part of the writing of all of it.

He's taken actors who though very talented, weren't exactly having parts thrown left and right at them, And put them at a whole nother level of familiarity with audiences that they hadn't had in awhile. Put them back in the public eye. And also introduce the general public to a lot of Broadway actors, and a wider television audience

He can be as much of a hack as he wants to be but at the end of the day he’s creating content that is getting big numbers. Not to mention he’s giving jobs to people who wouldn’t even dream of having the kind of opportunities they have now. For example POSE has gathered the largest group of trans actors, writers, directors, producers in history and that’s never a bad thing.

Inn my opinion his shows are pure escapism. I cannot wait for the ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOOS NEST prequel that he’s created.

Escapism can also be quality in the hands of good writers though.

It’s graphic, so expect the unexpected.  She’s THRILLED she finally has her first full-on cinematic sex scene, which has evaded her for decades.  She was fully committed to anything that was required for HOLLYWOOD and loves Ryan Murphy for having written the scene for her.

While they are involved as producers, with their larger slate they write and/or direct less and less. But it depends on the show. Looking at the more recent shows: between the first two seasons of American Crime Story, he directed 5 and he and Brad wrote 0 episodes out of 19; on Feud, Ryan directed 3 and co-wrote 1 of 8; on 9-1-1 Ryan and Fachuck co-wrote 4 out of 44 to date; on Pose, Ryan and Brad have directed or co-wrote 8 out of 18 to date.

I believe you are talking about Scotty Bowers' 'Full Service'. Kinda like Kenneth Anger's 'Hollywood Babylon', it was met with a lot of criticism of the validity of the claims. But who knows. Lol
