Listening to Fiona Apples new album Fetch the Bolt Cutters on a loop. Easy entry for consideration for best album of the year.
A new album that I didnt know I needed at exactly the moment I needed it. Uncompromising, challenging, complex, confounding, comforting. Thank you, Fiona.
The labels have been changing the release dates on new music due to coronavirus. Alicia Keys and Lady Gaga have both had changes. I'm hoping new Dixie Chicks will still be released May 1.
So. I was watching a recent "Graham Norton Show". One of his guests was Celeste, a young American-born British singer, totally unknown to me. Here she is performing at the 2020 "BRIT Awards," where she was given the "Rising Star" award. I like her. A lot.
For some reason The Graham Norton Show is no longer available here on Comcast. Would love to have seen that episode.
I am most looking forward to the new Janet Jackson CD. Her last one was excellent. Hoping it isn't delayed as I now know that I probably won't see her live this summer. I have a floor seat for her MSG concert in July. It was to be my first concert there.

We also have tickets, but it’s probably not going to happen this year *sigh* We do have wonderful memories of the Metamorphosis show in Vegas last year
Favorite music so far this year:
Fiona, of course. Also, “ Heavy Light” by U.S. Girls (wonderful power pop), “3.15.20” by Childish Gambino (but everything he does is great), “The New Abnormal” by the Strokes, and “Miss Anthropocene” by Grimes (my favorite so far this year)
Listening to Alanis’s new album “Such Pretty Forks in the Road” on vinyl. I’m really digging it: I’d say this, Fiona’s “Fetch The Bolt Cutters”, and Dua Lipa’s “Nostslgia” are my favorite albums so far this year.
I loved The Chick's album. In weaker hands, it could have easily come off repetitive in song themes. If I was Adrian, I would stay way clear of Natalie, if he wants to keep his family jewels.
OMG that album from The Chicks is amazing. Natalie has ZERO f*cks to give and I live for it.
Ive said for a long time that there’s no bigger Alanis fan her than me. I’ve listened to the new album around 10 times so far and i think it’s fantastic. Her albums usually take me a month or two to fully immerse myself in and this one will be no different with my favorite songs changing every day. Today, my favorite song on it is “Losing the Plot”. I’m also fascinated by “Pedestal”, the song that closes out the album. It’s an interesting choice for her to end it with this song which almost seems a companion to 2008’s “Straitjacket”, with time to heal and calm down and reflect on the situation.

I have a friend from back in the day, who only plays Alanis music. It is so extreme that he gets into violent fights with his boyfriend, because he lives and breathes Alanis. My friend doesn't know I know, but the boyfriend beat him up last year, and put him in a hospital, because my friend refused to play something different than Alanis. Now that is an obsessive fan. Doesn't help that my friend is near 40 and the boyfriend is 20.
I would never exclusively listen to a certain artist all the time although I go through periods where I do. Still, no one deserves to suffer domestic violence for their musical choices. If you don’t like they someone listening exclusively to one artist, you know you could, oh I don’t know, break up with them rather than putting them into the hospital.
Got Gaslighter on vinyl in the mail today. Thanks again for encouraging me to give it another chance. What an exceptional album. Sounds amazing on vinyl.
Everyone’s got a boner for the new Swift album but I found it a bore. People keep telling me “Sondheim would love it! So many complete rhymes.” But then she rhymes “fun” with “one.” And... it doesn’t seem all that great. Nothing stuck out to me.
also, just to nerd out, I love when the bass line comes in “tights on my boat” right at the start of the chorus! Just adds so much. Hopefully they get Grammy nominated.
Same. I’ll never deny she is a talented songwriter and this album has some great turns of phrase, but by the end of my one and only listen I was bored (mainly due to the flattering production) and glad when it was over. At least I tried! Never a big fan although I like a few of her songs. I guess my inner teenage girl is dead. LOL. At least I listened to the whole thing. I had to abandon Bob Dylan’s universally praised new album on the first track mid-song.
