What revivals would you like to see or think we will see post covid opening. As many have shared they think well be in for some Im curious what may be on the horizon:
Im just throwing down some to see what people think.

Joseph (I definitely see this happening to fill a theatre and bring people in)

Sound of Music (it has been a while. Family friendly and well known)

Grease

Show Boat

Hairspray (honestly I could see Harvey back for one more kick. And its fun and light.)

Hello dolly (I wonder if the tour will come back and take a spot in the fall or shortly after opening. Even for a brief run. Theres so many Dollys Id love to see)

Beauty and the Beast

If we have broadway back this year, is expect LES MIS to open very fast and I’m thinking ANNIE for Christmas.

I always loved Bye Bye Birdie

It wasn't popular enough before COVID but since this is just for fun - Heathers

I second that one!

Also agree with Hairspray.

I was thinking of this today and I really think Disney should figure out a Beauty and the Beast revival.. it’s the perfect time.

I definitely think “safe” is what everyone will be playing. I wonder if Laura obsession would do beauty and the beast. With like Nick Adams as lumiere or something.

I’d love to see a revival of hairspray just like a duplicate of the original I would How Bonnie Milligan would do as Tracy Harvey reprise his role. I mean Shawn mendes or TImothee chalamet would be a great link. But I doubt it. Cheyenne Jackson as corny Collins.

I really think they will be banking on these well known shows and then pumping them with a couple names to draw people in.

iirc the longest period of time on Broadway without a production of Les Mis has been 6 years, so we're getting close to that, and I know a few people who would definitely be interested in seeing it as well, though the tour was still ongoing before the shutdown so not sure how that'll factor in.

I think this would absolutely be the perfect time for a Beauty and the Beast revival, and I'd love to see Susan Egan as Mrs. Potts or another cameo.

Not a revival but I wonder if jukebox musicals would be even more ubiquitous to try to bring people in, but I hope it won't come to that.

I really don’t know that jukebox musicals will be what’s popular to bring in. Really I there are probably just as many failures as successes. I’m going to say they’ll stick to sure fire hits

And yes I would love to see Susan Egan as Mrs Potts.

I wonder if Donna Murphy would take on a feature role like mother superior or Mrs Potts

These times seemed made for a revival of ANNIE; we need a new deal for Christmas for sure.

And a revival of the original please. No James Lapine this time.

It’s already been figured out, they’ve just been waiting for the right opportunity.

Well they’ll have plenty of empty theaters to choose from.

I was just looking at the theatre listings on wiki the other day and there are already six empty theatres  never mind some that I know won’t open or reopen because they were limited engagements or scheduling. Honestly there are at least 12 theatres free for shows to have their pick from

Tom Schumacher mentioned the Beauty and the Beast revival on Nightline a few months ago but since then I've only heard about Aida tour and Menken's comment about Hercules.

My wish list:

Beauty and the Best

A Christmas Carol with a new Scrooge

I'd love to see Les Miserables preferably with Josh Davis and Nick Cartell

Anastasia (Tour was supposed to end in early August so why not try a smaller theater for a limited run)

Could Aida make Broadway a tour stop?

Sound of Music

I’d love to see a revival of Aida. I hesitated to mention it because I wondered how ticket friendly it would be. I’d love to see Aaron tveit as radames. I used to wish that lea Michele or Megan Hilty would be amneris and Cynthia Erick would be Aida. Now I’m more open to casting

Now would also be the time for my dream revival- a lush revival of a little night music. Julie Andrews. Cate Blachett. TImothee Chalamet (Hendrik). A total” event “. (-Scott Rudin you checking these boards??). I would also take Maggie Smith if Julie is adamant she will not return.

An aside I was watching Ian mckellen and Helen mirren in the good liar. I wonder how they would fare in a revival of the gin game. Or a theatrical adaptation of the movie “amore”

I will stop saying Ragtime when it happens.

Also, I’m pretty sure that Anastasia tour isn’t closing completely, I think I heard just switching to non-equity.

Nick Adams as Lumiere, the candlestick? I think you must mean Gaston.

For your viewing pleasure. Disney's casting dept, take note.

I initially thought that Broadway producers wouldn't dare sinking tons of money into big productions after this, but considering South Korea's production of Phantom sold out the first day tickets went back on sale, they might have a chance.

I know musicals are the way to go, but I'd love to see a revival of a classic play. Something upbeat like Harvey or You Can't Take it With You.

I'd love either of those plays, but I also feel like they're too big of casts for producers to want to sink a lot of money into right now.  I feel like the plays we'll be seeing are smaller-cast ones that still have some sort of name recognition (especially some of the early-2000 ones like Proof or Doubt getting their first revivals).  I think that's what a lot of the nonprofits in particular will be looking for to get back on their feet.

Off the top of my head, these plays and musicals have small enough casts to be considered.

“The Glass Menagerie”
“The Goat or Who Is Sylvia?”
“I Do! I Do!”
“The Last Five Years”
“Little Shop of Horrors”
“Next To Normal”
“Romance/Romance”
“Steel Magnolias”
“Three Days of Rain”

The London revival of JOSEPH was rumored to be comig over this Fall. Could see it still coming over at some point next year.

A Chorus Line could be easily put if needed.

Assassins?

I think the Beauty & the Beast revival will wait to take the New Amsterdam whenever Disney decideds to close Aladdin.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

That “Joseph” revival was going to return to London later this year, I hadn’t heard it was planning to come over here (but it was EXCELLENT).

This has been on my mind quite a bit but something just tells me they’re going to do a revival of Thoroughly Modern Millie. It’s a loved story, super happy and upbeat, and could easily have a big name attached to it. The original production was so successful partially because it was a happy escapist show and after 9/11, everyone needed that

While I’ve always hoped if they did a revival of this show, that they would cast the leads with unknowns, that’s not realistic right now.

I know Sutton would never go back to this show (both due to age and the fact that she was struggling a lot doing the original production) so don’t yell at me but that would have people buying tickets like hot cakes. My other thought was Ashley Park, especially since the City Center Encore production got cancelled, but I’m not sure if she’s a big enough name to get people in the door. Any other thoughts?
