Goodbye Beetlejuice. I had tickets for June 6. I know it wasn’t going to happen, but it’s very upsetting. I loved that show. At least I got to see it three times prior.

“ But industry leaders widely expect the theaters to remain closed longer — many say that a best-case scenario is reopening following the July 4 weekend, and that it is possible that the industry will not reopen until after Labor Day.”

Truly feeling for everyone involved with Beetlejuice right now, as well as any other show that won’t survive the break. Every once in a while you see a cast come along that does everything in their power to collectively reach out to their community in positive ways. I think Beetlejuice was the most recent example of a show that just really spoke to its audience. Seriously hoping they can carry on eventually, maybe this thing can get resurrected?

It will be longer, this is just so people can get refunds and people can change their plans.

This long shutdown does give the producers of Beetlejuice a lot of time to consider moving to another theater. Still an option, otherwise the show will just start touring in 2021.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

If it goes thru the entire summer, Broadway will have trouble surviving. Summer months are their best box offices months and if they are lost I can't imagine many shows will be able to handle it. Hope I am wrong.

This date would have to mean that the stay-at-home order would be lifted prior to June 7th.

Every show on Broadway would have to do at least a couple of days of tech rehearsals. The longer a show is closed, the more likely technical issues will exist.

I can’t imagine they would have the funding at this point to support a move.

It is entirely possible they still move theatres.  My heart hurts for the cast and crew of Beetlejuice and every show that unknowingly played their last show right before the shutdown.  Hopefully whenever the Tonys occur they will allow the casts to take a true final bow as this was so unexpected for so many.  All of the shows set to open over the summer and in the fall like Music Man are now effected too.  Tear down of sets (which Beetlejuice may want to preserve as much of the original set as possible for the tour or a move), emptying of personal effects, everything is on hold.

Alex Brightman:

“Since Broadway is closed until June 7th, and we were supposed to play our final performance on June 6th, I am going to celebrate @BeetlejuiceBway today by feeling whatever feelings come my way. But two things are imminent: a drink (not now) and @sonicdrivein all day. Cheers, all.”

I agree with those who expect this will be longer.  With the condition NYC is in right now, not having enough tests and a vaccine being a year away, I don't see how it's possible for any of this to be resolved in the next two months.  Fall or even winter seems debatable at this point.

Well that officially cancels out May trip where we had tickets for 16 shows. My sister was afraid to come anyway because of our age so it will be easier to get refunds now  But damn it makes me so sad that I wont see all the limited engagements we had rickets for. I still pray for all you guys living in the City  Be safe. We live in a small town in East Texas with 6 confirmed cases so far.

Such a shame, so heartbreaking across the board.  Before yet another thread starts, wanted to post the section from the NYTimes article about the Tony Awards.  (My bet, given that most of the large pool of voters won't have seen the last several shows to open before the shutdown, and given suspicions the shutdown could last till after Labor Day, is that they'll akmost certainly go with option B, combining the seasons for a Tonys in June 2021).

"The uncertain Broadway schedule has impeded the Tony Awards, which honor Broadway plays and musicals. The ceremony, originally scheduled for June 7, has been postponed indefinitely....  The Tonys could extend the eligibility deadline, which had been April 23, for shows to compete in this year’s awards, and hold a ceremony later in the year. But the longer Broadway remains closed, the less practical that seems because of the amount of time it takes to preview and open a show and then allow the approximately 850 Tony voters, who live all over the country, time to see it. One alternative: Honor an abbreviated 2019-20 season, considering only those shows that opened before the March 12 shutdown. That would exclude 16 shows that had been scheduled to open between that date and the April 23 deadline.

Another option: The Broadway League and the American Theater Wing, which jointly produce the awards, could consolidate the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons, and let any shows that opened over a two-year period compete for honors at an awards ceremony next year.  In any case, awards organizers are hoping CBS will agree to air a broadcast, coordinated with the reopening of Broadway, that would celebrate theater as a way of reminding viewers of the joys of the art form."

But the Drama Desk Awards just announced they’re still happening with I’m assuming this season’s open shows. Which makes little sense since the Tonys are postponed.

Little Shop said their last date was May 10th, meaning they should be closing, but the Telecharge site has tickets till September. Hopefully, that means they can outlive the shutdown.

I do think with the uncertainty of when Broadway will reopen will guarantee any new shows from booking a theater. We may see a tour or two stopping at Broadway next season. This also gives me more reason to think Beetlejuice aims to reopen next Spring. There's going to a bunch of available theaters and theater owners may offer a reduced rent just to fill them for a limited time.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. I can't imagine The Minutes will be coming back. I also wonder if American Buffalo will actually happen. Really nervous to see what else will announce it's played its final performance.

Well the Governor just said that unless Broadway knows more than he does or has other information, the June date is basically not set in stone. He spoke of it being a microcosm and that so much around it will have to happen before people go back to see theatre. (In a nutshell)

I would suspect that if things continue to get better, some people will be back to work by the 7th. What I think will cause opening shows to be delayed could be the letting people back to work in waves, by age,  that the Governor mentioned the other day. He said younger people would go first. They are not the only people running Broadway and Broadway is going to need almost everyone back. It will depend on how this testing of people goes and for how long. Just my random thoughts.

Just give the world Love.

Even when shows are given the go to reopen... broadway isn’t going to jump back to normal instantly. International travel will likely be restricted still. I assume many won’t be making unnecessary purchases for a while.

Attendance is going to be a struggle for many shows for I would assume many months. Perhaps until a vaccine is widely produced and available.

I think the question isn’t “when does broadway reopen” but “when does society go back to pre-2020 activity?”
