Anyone been following this story? I'm a member and was trying to cancel my membership, but you have to go in person, and everything is shut down. So you can't. And they're still charging us for the month of April. Any idea what to do?
Even if they told you not do so, send them an email that you want to terminate your membership. Go into detail why you are unable to go in person. By putting it in writing, you will have evidence if you need to dispute the charge. I assume they are taking out payment on your credit card.
The Attorney General finally got involved a few days ago demanding it freezes memberships and honor cancellations. If they still refuse, they will be f*cked legally speaking. Goddamn crooks.
I was a member of a gym that went bankrupt so getting the money back was impossible. If nothing else you should be credited for the months they were closed and they should add the months on to your membership.
Gyms may only fill up to 33 percent capacity. Gym-goers must wear face coverings, pass a health screening and maintain at least six feet of separation at all times.
You can imagine that is very difficult for dense gyms in NYC. Unlike you are a member of Equinox or some other fancy ass place, going to a gym is probably a nightmare right now.
I went to the Hell's Kitchen branch, the ill-named ELITE, a couple of times since the re-opening and was pleasantly surprised. Mask usage was consistent, and the staff was most vigilant about pointing out to slackers that their masks needed to cover their nose, etc. The place is better run during the epidemic than it was before it.
