Phantom of London said: "Mark Harris’ article for the vulture was illuminating and very concerning.

Broadway has to start from scratch, with high unemployment and lack of tourism due to Covid 19, Broadway has to chase every buck, not that it didn’t anyway, they’ve to go harder now.

I would think that Producerswould be now reluctant to spend money, they would want to test the market - I would be shocked if the Britney Spears and Michael Jackson musical does happen anytime soon, other shows may get shelved. Producers like tourists need confidents too.

So here’s a crapshoot Love Never Dies could be an ideal show to get Broadway up and running, nice and gentle show that may bridge to the bigger shows eventually, once this dreadful virus has gone.
"

As much of an ALW fan that I am and would like to see this reach Broadway - I doubt that this would be the time to bring LND here.  If anything a crowd pleaser like Joseph would make more sense in whats going to be a difficult place to start

If LND ever makes it to B'way, Andrew will need to heavily rework the show.

Joseph is certainly a great shout and could see happening.

With Love Never Dies I mean a new show.

Post Covid Broadway will need to adapt and unfortunately Broadway will need to slash costs both in development to put a show on, on Broadway and weekly nut. It could be possible that Broadway capacity will be 50-69% and average ticket prices slashed. Gone will be the eye watering Hamiltonesque average ticket prices. However crucially Love Never Dies has a set and quite a elaborate one, which is a tremendous cost of putting a show on.

Could be Beauty and the Beast and Aida could come in?

That was a very enlightening article - thank you for the link. My surprise take-away from it is that 'Mean Girls' crossed over to the 'black' this past January. I know many were wondering here this past season if there was much life left to it - I guess there indeed is life left to it.

So after listening to alw on his Instagram post I do believe that he will be looking to transfer the Toronto production to New York or have a production play New York and transfer to Toronto or just mount a production in a broadway theatre. But he definitely seems to have the idea that it will return to America.

Personally, I could see this being a good opportunity to fill a theatre with something and it could pay off. Like I’ve said. I would love to see it as a double header. But having a new show that has been developed with a material that’s already know. I think this coming spring could see the opportunity for it to finally come

I also think he won't be happy till the show gets to Broadway, and I could see how they bring the cheaper tour into a Broadway theatre for a bit to give it a quick run before it goes back on the road.

I watched the stream of this show this morning and I think it needs some heavy reworking, including the ending, before coming to Broadway. I do like that the show is on the shorter side so that could be appealing in a post-COVID Broadway.

"Just let it diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiie..."

Darkest Timeline: Broadway is desperately in need of content with backers who can front the money themselves. Enter ALW with LND and its ready-to-go production on the cheap.

Seriously though, why the f*** would this show ever COME BACK to Broadway? Granted the AUS design (most recently toured/Peacock Dress) definitely gave it a certain je ne sais quios, there's nothing you can do for that dumpster fire of a book. Like... such utter trash that Frederick Forsyth apologized and vowed never to attempt romance again. Not to mention the lyrics are a huge turn off (why, Glenn, whyyyyyyyyyyy).

Obviously, I care a bit more than the average theatre fan. Phantom of Manhattan would have worked as a 15 yr old's first attempt at fanfiction. Anything other than that... just no.

But, fortunately for the rest of the world, yours isn't the only opinion that matters.

This show is a guilty pleasure of mine, and I’m one of those hardcore Phantom fans who think the story is abysmal, but also aren’t upset that it exists. I don’t know how well it would do on Broadway, but it seems that the Australian staging has been more successful than the original London production, considering it keeps popping up all over the place. Maybe there could be a bit of unexpected demand if they decided to give it a limited run on Broadway.
