Chicago had a slight increase, but not by much.

"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

Six is off to a great start in previews. I was worried this would skew too young to be profitable, but as long as these numbers arent front-loaded it looks like their marketing blitz is paying off.

Girl From the North Country looks like it will need glowing reviews and/or awards love to turn into a genuine hit. I think they could stand to make Bob Dylan more prominent in the marketing. Their key art is very pretty, but they should learn from the mistake that The Last Ship made by not making Sting the most prominent feature of ads. Dylan is really what they have going for them in terms of a major hook.

Congrats to Six, that’s just wild. So cool.

Also, how savage of the Inheritance producers to make the cast play to literal half empty houses and not even paper. The least they could do is let the actors enjoy their final weeks in full houses and giving tickets to students or organizations that can’t afford them. Just feels silly to let all those seats sit empty.

The Inheritance may have papered somewhat. Sometimes there is a limit to how much producers and box office will paper, or they will only paper enough to fill in the orchestra.

And if they had been seeing a steady amount of business from discounts, then they may be trying to get the most they can from discount offers rather than doling out a bunch of comps. Getting $39 from a TDF ticket is better than getting $0. And once you start throwing a ton of performances on papering sites, it can be difficult to get sales back, even discounted sales, as theater folks come to associate it with being easy to get for free. Plus, sometimes a closing notice gives shows a slight spike in sales as potential buyers who were on the fence or waiting will now have a impetus to purchase. Im sure they wanted to give a chance for that bump to happen before comping.

I take issue with your comment of producers of "The Inheritance" being savage. I volunteer for two non-profits here in the city--AND BOTH were offered generous amounts of tickets to see both Parts  1 & 2 on the same day. Each organization receiving them for different Sundays. And those are the two I know about. I imagine there are other worthwhile non-profits and schools in the city that also benefitted from their generosity.

Well, that's the big question, isn't it? They could very well be front-loaded. I don't know one way or the other, but it's certainly not out of the question. We'll have to wait and see.

But still, it really is a great start, and I don't mean to diminish that.

I feel like the poster and advertising for Girl... make it seem like it's a new score by Bob Dylan (they say music and lyrics by Bob Dylan) as opposed to the show using already existing Dylan songs.

Is this the first time Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has been below 100% capacity?

The theater owners need to sign off on any papering and comps, producers can't just do it as they please. But also there is a limit to how many people each papering service can provide a show - their lists are only so large - and I bet a 7-hour play mediocre reviews wasn't easy to even give away in large numbers.

This is not correct (except the very last bit perhaps).

WSS dropped almost 70K their official opening week.  But attendance and overall gross are very high.  Wonder how the not all rave reviews will impact the box office in the weeks to come.  They are at 84 percent of gross potential, I see.   Are they ever on TKTS?

"

Well lots of assumed-comps on Opening night will account for the $70k, and even then that’s not a huge loss for a normal week-of Opening gross.

I believe they’ve been below once or maybe twice before.

West Side Story like any of the classics, Fiddler on the Roof, The King and I, Carousel, Oklahoma, and My Fair Lady was always going to do well at least for the first few months of its run based on name recognition alone, much like the productions mentioned above. The reviews/word of mouth matters come 2 months from now when the production has eaten through its pre-opening advance ticket sales.
Its review are actually on par with the billingual revival,    which sold just as well this point in its run, it wasn’t until its first summer ended and the love it or hate it aspect of the billingual aspects of the production caught up with its ticket sales. I expect the same for this revival unless it wins the Tony, which is highly unlikely with 2 revivals with glowing reviews from London yet to open this season.

I think it is a crowd pleaser in a way that the previous one was not. (And yes I realize that does not include all of the crowd here, or all of the critics.) I agree we shall see, but I think it is too soon to conclude the substantiality of its legs.

Strongly agree with Trish2 here. One of the show's lead producers with a social media following of over 11.8k posted upon news of The Inheritance closing notice:

"If you are queer, in the arts or activist and allied and haven’t been able to afford to see this masterwork, please DM me. Whether we know one another or are just digitally connected I will gladly buy you a ticket to see this beautiful show. These are not tears of sorrow, these are tears of gratitude for the journey of a lifetime."

I am strongly of the opinion that these producers are doing everything in their power, within reason, to share this production with as many as possible before it leaves the Barrymore, and I applaud them for doing so.
