Does anybody think she will get to star in original show on Broadway or will she be a person who is always a replacement to an existing show?

I can't say for sure, but what I can say was that her Jenna in Waitress knocked me off my feet and left me wanting more. I've seen nearly all of the US Jennas and her interpretation was by far my favorite. Beautiful subtle acting choices and wonderful vocals...

So, in my opinion she has both the talent and the star quality to star in a new original show. I sincerely hope she gets the chance to do it!

I agree, I think she has the talent and hope she gets the opportunity. I read reviews of her performance on the West End and they were very positive.

I hope so! She was really great. I've also seen most Jenna's and her and Sara are tied for me, and considering that Sara wrote the music, that's pretty good.

She's very pretty and has a voice perfect for a mic.

I say that as both a positive and negative.

I can’t wait to see her in another show, because I adored her Jenna, and her vocals blew me away. I saw in an interview that she mentioned she’d love to originate a new musical if that opportunity ever arose or if she could do a revival then she loves Sweet Charity and Annie Get Your Gun, but she said that they’d probably need to rework those 2 shows to work in today’s #metoo climate, which is prob true. I’d love to see her as Annie Oakley. With Gavin Creel as Frank Butler! I’m already casting it lol.

Kat McPhee is a great example of name/star (not stunt) casting done well. I was so impressed by how good she was in Waitress. Like, I knew she could sing, but boy can she SING!!! And I thought her acting was beautifully nuanced as Jenna. Count me in if she does another show in the future; would like to see.

She was trashed for her acting in SMASH so it appears she has come a long way. I have seen/heard youtube clips from her performance and she sounds great. Looks like she is another example of somebody who came in 2nd on American Idol who later on has done pretty well.

I liked her in Smash but that was her first acting gig and she was definitely inexperienced. Also no one in that show was helped by the terrible writing and characterisations. “I’m in tech” “I love church” - ICONIC! She’s obviously got a lot more experience under her belt since then though, and her voice has clearly matured a lot also. It’s always been beautiful and she’s always had good vocal control, but in Waitress it had so much power and clarity. It’s a perfect score for her really so she chose well for her first broadway show!

Good point about the writing, it was pretty bad at times. Hated her boyfriend in the show, he was so lame.

Ehh... I watched Scorpion and she wasn't good in that, either. Of course that was also a pretty bad show!

Jimmy, what are you doing here in the middle of the night? It's almost 9 PM!

In her favour also for future castings is that she was a really reliable performer. She played Jenna for what, 9/10 months total in NYC and London (?), and she barely missed a show. Just thinking about all the recent furore with Alfie Boe in Les Mis and Dove Cameron in Light in the Piazza, with them proving less than reliable, which p*ssed a lot of people off!

Yeah she had really good attendance! The problem with the recent Les Mis was that it was called  “Les Mis - the All Star Cast Staged Concert” - and promoted as such, yet it was rare that all the star cast were ever  on together. One time all of Alfie Boe, Michael Ball, Carrie Hope Fletcher and Matt Lucas we’re out the same show! If you’re literally marketing the show for its star cast then you can’t expect people who book to specifically see them not to be upset when they don’t.

Is there a thread or article about Dove Cameron? Apparently I missed that. All I know is that she wasn't in the Chicago production even though I thought that she would be.

I don’t know tbh! It was a West End thing with Light In The Piazza. It’s was only a very limited production to begin with but became a bit of a mess because Dove Cameron missed a large chunk of the shows and it wasn’t handled very well. At one point the producer came on stage before the show to apologise for her not being in the show and the production tweeted that they would offer refunds to people who specifically wanted to see her, which then caused a massive outcry within the community with people saying they should treat understudies with more respect. Fun times!

Would be kind of neat if she could close "Waitress" in London also.

I really, really didn't like her in Scorpion... But, as you've said, it was also a bad show. That's why I was even more surprised that she delivered such a heartfelt, nuanced performance in Waitress.

Also, just wanted to point out that Katharine has already done Annie Get Your Gun a while ago in LA, so she'd probably kill it the second time around!
