Ok now that The Inheritance is closing before our May trip,it leaves me with both Saturday matinee and evening slots to fill. My sister and I have decided to bite the bullet and see Beetlejuice in the matinee slot. That leaves Saturday night. My first thought was to see Flying Over Sunset because Ive heard good things but it was not a "must see" for me when I was choosing the 16 shows for this trip.I now have added The Lehman Trilogy, American Buffalo, The Hangman, and Sing Street to the list of possible replacements. Anyone want to give me some advice.?? Thanks
I plan on seeing all of these possibilities, but both Hangmen and The Lehman Trilogy are productions that have been mounted elsewhere to great acclaim, so they are safe bets.
Depending on the date in May, other Off-Broadway options could include The Bedwetter at Atlantic, The Visitor at The Public, Three Sisters at NYTW, Little Shop, and Thoroughly Modern Millie at City Center.
I don't think you can really go wrong with any of them. If Flying Over Sunset interests you, I'd recommend simply because a) it's a true original musical that's unlikely to tour and b) if you've never seen a show in the Beaumont, it's a very cool and unique space. American Buffalo will likely be excellent with that cast, but it's also constantly revived. Hangmen in my opinion was one of McDonagh's weaker scripts (relatively speaking compared to the genius of his many others) and Johnny Flynn was the best part of it (who's not transferring with it), but it's still absolutely worth seeing. And Lehman Trilogy and Sing Street should also be fine productions. So really, just whichever one interests you the most.
Lehman Trilogy is playing in movie theaters through National Theater Live. I'm planning to see it that way rather than spend one of my precious NYC theater spots on it.
You've got a great lineup! If I had to add to it, I'd do Flying Over Sunset and Sing Street.
Edited to add: another possibility is CSC's Assassins, if your trip is early to mid-May.

I was just going to say this – there are some great off-bway options. Personally I'd try and grab one of the last tickets to Assassins at CSC. But these would all be good options beyond that.
Well, decision made and tickets bought. We decided to forgo seeing Beetlejiuce as it will tour to Dallas soon. That left us so we could see both The Lehman Trilogy which my sister was interested in and Flying Over Sunset . They won't replace the Inheritance in my heart but should still be great alternatives. Thanks for all the advice and help.

Maybe The Inheritance on Broadway will be broadcast on PBS sometime or is it definitely known that it wasn't / won't be filmed?
