The last movie I expected someone to complain about in this thread was The Weather Man. Brilliant movie. Not a comedy. Supremely underrated with a career best performance from Cage.
> It could be that the industry is so isolated and closed off to talented new people that it is akin to marrying your cousin. I know one thing.
#1 Why did you join a theatre board to bitch about comedy movies?
#2 Every era has **** comedy movies. SH*T movies in every genre. Your nostalgia brings forth what is good from those eras and represses the negative. This is not something "New", it's that you're getting old and are out of touch.
Maybe because Hollywood does not seem to have stars now like Sandra Bullock, Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant who made romantic comedies very popular many years ago.
"Probably because everything that used to be considered funny would be torn apart these days as being offensive to someone/anyone/everyone."
Not true. Again, see Booksmart, Game Night, Girls Trip. Bridesmaids, Superbad, Sausage Party, etc etc. There are still plenty of funny movies that push boundires.
The Vacation movie got bad reviews because it was an awful movie.

The last ‘oldskool’ comedy film was the Vacation remake andit got torn to shreds for being too gross out.
We’re only allowed Wes Andersons ‘brand’ of ‘intelligent’comedyin the cinema now...
Thank God for tv and stand up!"
I know, its hard for you to learn that racism and sexism are no longer considered funny or comical. There are still "old school" comedies that work, but lets not confuse "old movies" that are ignorant and not up to today's standards (because ya know, societies change, believe it or not!) and old school tactics. Some things are old school, like reading a physical book instead of on your phone/Ipad/Kindle. Things like that, they're more "old school" compared to today's tech standards. There's nothing wrong with it, just a more old school approach. Don't confuse acting old school to being old, outdated, and inappropriate.

Half of those are like nearly 10 years old...
There was nothing crude or offensive in Booksmart or Game Night...

You're SO confident for being SO ignorant..."
Put some clothes on, this isn't Grindr x"
My point exactly with this comment. Sorry "your" ways are not accepted in general society. Its rude to demean others the way you do. Go enjoy your dumb outdated comedies. Did you want something rude or offensive in Booksmart? Seems like a complaint from you, glad you enjoy demeaning others and laughing in others pain! You're a true hero!

Well we clearly struck a cord with you as you reply very quickly and replied to every single one of us. That gif I think might need to be redirected... Also you didn't answer my question. Did you want something more rude and offensive in Booksmart? Pushing boundaries is one thing, but did you want something more "offsensive"? And why don't you tell us a joke that you find funny?

Anyways, another great comedy from last year would be Sword of Trust, very clever Imo with great cinematography for an indie film. And in case I haven't mentioned it, The Art Of Self Defense!

That isn't even me... it's a singer. But nice use of literally not even addressing your ignorance..."
Apologies then, sorry for being rude x
Considering a number of Hollywood directors have stated the same thing I did, I'm not seeing any ignorance. Both Todd Phillips and Peter Farrelly have both talked about having to change paths because they couldn't get the movies off the ground they wanted to make for that very reason. Personally I think it's done their careers more good than harm as clearly they are 2 talented directors making tripe...occasionally enjoyable tripe, but still tripe.
Some people seem to have taken personal offence that I didn't mean. I was not criticising 'woke' culture I was just staring a fact that people within the industry have actually said.
And before you all accuse me of 'backtracking' or being an arse...I didn't start the name calling.
I also didn't state anywhere that I even liked those kind of movies.
The fact I got called ignorant and was accused of being a sexist, racist merely for stating something that you could 'spin' that way, actually speaks volumes about the point I was trying to make.
Would an ignorant, sexist, racist have paid to see Six 11 times?
I think not, but I'm pretty sure y'all will find something in what I've just written to be offended by...so I'm out x
ErikJ972 said: "Yeah. Todd Phillips. Who literally has a blank check to make whatever movie he wants complains he can't make the kind of movies he wants anymore."
Yup and there it is...
He made Joker because he couldn't get any of his comedy projects off the ground.
If you read what I wrote instead of just rushing to be a complete and utter **** you'd have worked that out you pee brained ****wit x
>>Both Todd Phillips and Peter Farrelly have both talked about having to change paths because they couldn't get the movies off the ground they wanted to make for that very reason.
You mean people can't make the same movies for 30 years? *gasp* Comedy is the fastest to age and age poorly. That they had to evolve, into making bad movies, is not society's fault it's there's for being unadaptaple in their preferred genre. So yeah... You're still ignorant. Directors don't speak gold, they speak in their own self interests. Todd Smith is pissy he wasn't allowed to do frat boy comedy and get praise for it anymore. That was his problem.
