Such a sad ending to the veteran actor of stage and screen - Orson Bean was struck and killed by two cars as he was crossing the street Friday night on Venice Boulevard, in Venice, CA. He leaves behind his wife, actress Alley Mills, who was performing on stage at the Pacific Resident Theatre, where she and Bean were both members. Bean was crossing the street shortly before 7 pm across from the theater, where he was on his way to see his wife's performance.
Was just watching some old Match Game episodes from the 70s the other night on which he was a member of the celebrity panel. Sad story. And on his way to see his wife. Tragic. RIP.
Orson and Melina Mercouri in Illya, Darling in 1967 made for a fun filled matinee at the Mark Hellinger theatre. A musical delight based on Never On A Sunday. The score was exuberant and they along with that great cast will always be remembered by me. I usually thought of Buck Henry and Orson Bean as real achievers in the industry and now both are gone.

Was that show ever revived? I never heard of it. Sounds like it could be a great show from what you remember.
I also saw,him in Illya . Show was very entertaining. Have the CD of it .Shame it had a short run. This show was in the days when shows has real scenery . I believe Hal Linden of Barney Miller had a bit part as a sailor. .Theater itself is an old movie palace. It is absolutely gorgeous. Sadly it is the last of the 10 picture palaces that once graced Times Square .
