“No one piece of writing about our complex, sprawling community will ever tell the entire story, and I believe that is a good thing: It creates an unquenchable thirst for more and more narratives.”

Then why is the play’s advertising campaign so determined to shove a message of inclusivity of the entire LGBT community down our throats? If the show is about alcoholism, why not lead with that?

This is some odd damage control if I’ve ever seen, and I’m surprised the producers let him publish this essay. He’s not wrong - but he also doesn’t discuss why every main character had to be rich, aggressively attractive/thin, and white.

I don’t think this will help him win a Tony in June, but we’ll see.
