Hello all.  Although I did not get a chance to visit NYC in 2019 (I went to SF instead), I am thrilled to be making my return to the  Big Apple from Sun. June 7 ---Tues. June 9, 2020.  My flight (Southwest) arrives at LaGuardia at 1:20 p.m., so I cannot make any of the 2:00 p.m. shows.  sadI've booked my first show.  Wild guess.  I'm seeing "Chicago" on Sun. June 7 at 7:00 p.m. Front row, center orchestra of course.   On Tuesday, June 9th, I am seeing "Moulin Rouge".  Good grief...the prices!  I got the "last" cheap seat (Mezzanine) at $129.00.  With charges, that ticket went up to $179.31.  Also, I am kind of scared of the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.  I still have bad memories of the hordes of people coming down the stairs combining with the people leaving the orchestra section and combining with the crowd at the merchandise kiosk.  That was when I saw "Cats" in December 2018.  Now, I have to see what's available on Monday, June 8th.  Any recommendations?

"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

Cats was playing at the Neil Simon Theatre, not the Al Hirschfeld winkAlthough if you ask me, they are both horror scenes during walk-out.

You're right of course.  I saw "Kinky Boots" at the Al Hirschfeld.  I might need to take a Valium to deal with the crowds at the Al Hirschfeld.  I've also been checking off-Broadway shows.  Most of them will be closed by the time I get to NYC.

Saw Moulin Rouge the other week. Walkout wasn't too bad the evening I saw it because they let people linger to take pictures. I hung out about 5 minutes after and walked right out after using the restroom.

Just give the world Love.

Sounds like Broadway.com level service fees.

I have a friend on crutches.  We wait 5 minutes after the hordes start exiting and then leave.  Never an issue.  If it bothers you that much, I would listen to the orchestra wind down, and leave once it starts to thin out.

Yeah, I know.  I got my tickets via Broadway Box.  Moulin Rouge is not being discounted, apparently.  So, I had to pay regular prices.  I will have stay 3 nights and be able to see 3 shows.

Sun. June 7 @7:00 p.m. "Chicago".  I do hope I get to see the new Roxie, Emma Pittman.   I'm hoping either Lana Gordon or Terra C will be Velma.  I did get a discount for my seat.  I always like to sit in the front row.  I get a little self-conscious when I (silently) mime a good chunk of the lyrics to the show.

Mon. June 8th:  "Phantom of the Opera" (I dithered about whether to see this show or not.  I'm a "Phantom" virgin.  What should I know about the show or the theatre, if it's my first time?

Tues. June 9th:  Moulin Rouge (That regular priced ticket that I got was the last and least expensive ticket I could get. (Is Scott Rudin producing the show?)  I also saw that very few seats remained available for that day.  I hope Robyn Hurder (Chicago veteran) is there as Nini.

After the first two shows, I'll head out to Marie's.  I hope that I can manage to see some of you at Marie's Crisis.  Now that Supershuttle is dunzo, what airport shuttle might I use?  I'm staying at the Mayfair, which is right down the block from the Ambassador Theatre on West 49th St.  There were very few options...as most hotels were booked for that day.  Also, I would like to venture out to a non-Manhattan borough.  I've never been to the Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn or Staten Island.  I'll be brave and venture out to one or two of those places.  I do want to  visit Harlem and see the Apollo Theatre.  I am looking forward to visiting NYC during the summertime.  Also, I didn't realize June 7th was the night of the Tony Awards when I made my reservations.

One of the reasons I made my reservations at this time was that I got my tax refund in 4 days.  I was gobsmacked.   I needed to do everything with a certain haste, as desirable flight options were dwindling.

For future reference, there's no need to go through one of the Broadway websites like Broadway Box or Broadway.com when buying theatre tickets. Theatermania is okay, since it sends you directly to the official sellers. You could have gotten a better $149 Moulin Rouge seat on Ticketmaster for $166.20 with fees.

Isn’t Tony Awards on Sunday evening June 7th???

If I were you try to get a ticket to see Patti hopefully win another Tony!

I believe there’s another performance of CHICAGO on Monday June 8th. Watch Company on Tuesday June 9th and celebrate their (hopefully) Tony win(s).

My 2 cents.

Never buy tix thru bway.com...they are a secondary seller and jack up the service fees.

Welcome to Phantom!  I lost my virginity with the original cast.  A great night at the theatre. I am seeing the Majestic Theatre production for a third time, next month, in March. The pre-show setting before curtain time is mesmerizing. Enjoy.

If you are going to Harlem go to Sylvia's to eat - famous Soul Food place. They have the best fried chicken and waffles I've ever had!

Def worth seeing the Apollo as it is legendary. But you should take the 2/3 to Brooklyn and get off at Atlantic Ave. and go check out BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music) and the Harvey theater. And there are a few theaters in that same area. I like seeing marquees, and theater architecture.

Also, they just opened a new gay bar called Playhouse around the Marie's Crisis area.

The Met Cloisters and Fort Tryon Park are a lovely way to get out of Midtown. While technically part of Upper Manhattan, it is close to the Bronx and an entirely different feeling. Highly recommend!
