I love the movie and the show, but I don't think this is something we need.

What is buried in this announcement is that the production recently recouped.

A movie already exists so this is dumb. Very happy they recently recouped though!

Why is this “dumb”?

Wow. How completely and utterly unnecessary.

I would've just preferred MEAN GIRLS Live on NBC, but money.

Hmmmmm.....2 movie versions of Little Shop; 2 movie versions of The Producers; AND of Chicago;  8k versions of Phantom and Les Mis.

I don't care....but I'm not a fan of the story in any iteration.

I agree. Or even film it professionally and air it like LEGALLY BLONDE. This would've been a ratings hit.

Ugh. We already have a virtually perfect film of this story, and a decent musical. Enough is enough.

This could maybe go on Netflix. Tina Fey already worked with them on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

I also think her style of humor is better suited for film/TV than the stage. It's at such a breakneck speed, it pretty much requires editing to work.  Mean Girls on stage was still plenty funny, but it lost a lot of the timing from the original movie.

I’m surprised people are having negative feelings about this... how does a movie version of the musical existing affect any of us personally? I’m looking forward to it, but even if I wasn’t I wouldn’t think it’s existence was “dumb”.

This is just to get a press release. This is a very big no no. See you on MTV, do we even watch that channel?

Yep, different opinions. What a concept.

Thank god for the Fun Home movie, these film adaptions of bad stage shows aren’t going to help get new audiences in seats.

This is an awful idea. Not only do I not care for the show (love the original film), but I just can’t see why this should be made except for a quick buck. There’s nothing about the musical that seems cinematic. A lot of the staging just won’t work on film. If they wanted to let a wider audience see the musical, they should’ve just professionally taped the Broadway production.

I would agree, but would she really demand that much up front that it took the show nearly 2 years to recoup during which the first 18 months of the run the show was selling over $1.1M. a week?

The thing is Hairspray was a smaller cult movie and the show actually improved on it in many ways, Mean Girls I'd argue today is still a more popular and known title with a famous cast and the musical hasn't really improved on the original movie.

The Producers and Chicago were mega hits and, like Hairspray, The Producers musical really added something onto the movie.

Chicago, Les Mis and Phantom were just movie versions of mega musicals that had been running for years.

I wouldnt be surprised if it never gets made

There's nothing about the musical that seems cinematic?  It is based nearly beat by beat on a movie!  It takes place in so many locations they had to use video screens!
