I am officially flabbergasted by Beetlejuice's grosses. While I know that business was picking up, these grosses go beyond the gradual increase that was occurring (leaving out holiday weeks). I actually wonder whether the final factor in its reaching an entirely different box-office status was all the publicity surrounding its being evicted from the Winter Garden. It seems to have gotten people off the fence to open their wallets and commit to purchasing tickets.
It is also showing how effective dynamic pricing can be when business would otherwise slump. MR saw the decreased demand and lowered its prices to ensure that the show continued to be a sellout. (I have to admit that, despite its selling out every week, I am surprised that MR is not a bigger hit than it appears to be. Lots of tickets can be gotten in a very reasonable time period...certainly not the case with recent hits, TKAM, Hadestown, and a little further back DEH and Hamilton and BOM and Hello Dolly, when they were only opened about 6 months. I was thinking that it would probably run for 5 - 7+ years when it first opened...not thinking that any more.
Finally, and I know it happens all the time, but why did so many people need to wait until the last week to get tickets for Slave Play and Oklahoma. The theatres could not have been filled solely with multi-time viewers seeing them for one last time. Both shows should have run much longer than they did...a real shame. I knew some folks who couldn't get tickets. They expected me to feel bad that they missed it, to which I responded that they would have seen it if they hadn't sat on their a--es for so long.

I'm sure producers are looking into it. All a matter of finding a theater. I wonder if Rubin would let them extend until the end of June at least? Then shut the show down for two weeks to move.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Well it's complicated for sure. It's not even finding a theater problem as much as a money problem. It would mean redesigning sets to fit into a different theater which will cost at least a million dollars. And who is going to cover that cost... the theater owners? the producers? who?

Sincere question: how low would the incredibly long-runners need to drop in order to close? We know that Chicago has a very low nut. We know Phantom does boffo business during all tourist-heavy times. I'm not suggesting that I want them to close, and I know that there is no evidence that they're near closing. But in a very real way, I'm curious what it would take. Do they have another decade in them? Another TWO? With so many shows (also including Wicked and The Lion King) being full-blown intsitutions at this point, we're in unprecedented territory, so it just makes me curious.

Wicked and Lion King would be grosses under $800K, Phantom is under $700K, and Chicago is likely $550K, all of which would have to hover around these number for a prolonged period ie 3 months, for producers to consider closing them. The longer a show runs through the more streamlined costs become as things become somewhat of a science,as producers learn overtime where they can cut costs to save money. Ironically Wicked and Chicago are in two of the least desirable theaters for most producers. The Gershwin is massive and doesn't have the best location, and the Ambassador just has a weird stage configuration that would be a problem for most productions.
In terms of the other long running shows The Book of Mormon's nut is probably in the $650K range and Aladdin is likely $950K. For Aladdin though, this wouldn't be running cost so much as Disney would decided at that point that the it would be reasonable to close Aladdin to make room for a new production. This is arguably why many think/have stated on previous boards that if Frozen continued to fall below $1M a week Disney might pull the plug and fast track Hercules for the 2020 - 2021 season, and or open a limited engagement revival of Beauty and the Beast which seems to be waiting in the wings.

I know there were a couple of people who had seen Oklahoma multiple times who continued to go towards the end of the run. Personally, I was away for December so I couldn't see it again until January. Though I think the holidays usually create a spike in ticket sales, don't they?

Beetlejuice absolutely will not be moving to a different theater. Even if a suitable theater were available, which is not the case, the producers are not willing to spend the tens of millions of dollars it would take to remount the show.
And before anyone asks, this is not merely speculation.

I also think they have leveraged this situation to their advantage. Which is partially responsible for the uptick in the box office.
