For those of you unaware, in the musical Six at the end of the show during the Megasix the audience is allowed to film the performance. Well at least for its London production and the Chicago run of this pre broadway tour. From what I gathered, the show couldnt allow the audience to film during the Boston run, due to the local musician union. Not sure why they havent allowed it for Edmonton or Minneapolis runs, but I assume its for the same reason. Im just wondering if theres any reason to believe they wont be able to let the audience film the megasix during the broadway incarnation and if they would be able to broker some deal with the union if the same issue comes up.

We'll find out in February. But even if they allow during the first few preview performances, they can always revoke that ability and try to enforce it for those who don't know.

I don't know the answer but I was at Tina last night and they do something similar at the end of the show. People were filming it(not many) but the production didn't specifically say they could film it the way that Six does. They just weren't stopped. It wasn't an usher issue because they were very active throughout the rest of the show telling people to put phones away.

I'll be at the first preview for Six so I look forward to finding out how they plan to handle it.

This is interesting.  I filmed part of "Screech Out" at the end of "Come From Away" and no one stopped me.  I have heard that people used to film the Moulin Rouge encore but they stopped allowing it I think.  I guess it depends on the show...

Not sure but I thought it was so cool how a few months ago the writer (Toby Marlow) stepped in to perform Parr when the actor was out (and I guess understudy too?) Does anyone know if the understudies of the Broadway production are male or female? Would be interesting if they were male.

Here's the megasix clip when Marlow stepped in as Parr.

I think he only stepped in because some of the queens/alternates were sick.

All the Broadway alternates are female. If they were male, I wouldn't be v happy considering the show is all about feminism.

I really hope we can record the megasix, tho!!

Jorge, I filmed the megasix from the 2nd row on opening night in Edmonton. It was encouraged.

Thank you for this! For some reason I thought they didn’t allow in Edmonton.

I want to add to this for anyone who doesn't know because I think this story is just great.

The London West End cast went through a period where so many queens and alternate queens were getting sick that they were recruiting back previous Six queens to step in on nights when they simply ran out of people. On the night in this video, Aragon, Boleyn and K Howard are the only main cast queens. Jane Seymour is one of the alternates. Cleves is Genesis Lynea who was Cleves in the first run of the show and on the recording, but not part of the West End cast. (Extra delightful that she's next to her partner Aimie Atkinson - they each have a strong insta game for anyone interested, and the most adorable dogs). And then there's Toby as Parr! What a night.

I'm also keeping my fingers crossed for B'way MegaSixes. It's such an important marketing tool, I hope they find a way to make it work.

I saw Come From Away back in April 2019 and they were aggressively stopping people from filming that bit, was our seventh show that week and the only one that stopped anybody filming anything after the show was done.

my question is.... why would one want to ?

and of course   why is this considered a musical?   it's a concert performance!

Recording the Megasix has been promoted since the shows inception. "GET YOUR PHONES OUT, YOU'RE GONNA WANNA FILM THIS". It's how the show gained all its hype and is an excellent marketing strategy especially for such a millennial driven show.

It's a musical themed as a concert performance.

The nights I have lost hors in watching the many different MegaSixs.... such sweet hours. I love the mega six. I hesitate to see but I think I might have seen every one posted on YouTube and instanta at least a few times lol.

I doubt it, in Cambridge they didn't allow filming, and ushers informed the audience before the show started, specifying that unlike other productions it wasn't allowed, and they changed the line where they encourage people to film/take pictures (I forget what exactly)

So I'd be a little surprised if it came back for Broadway, glad for it, but a bit surprised.

They changed it to “Tell your friends that they’re gonna want to see this “

No filming was allowed in St Paul either, but I found a mega six someone recorded in YouTube last night

That 'line' has only been added since the US performances began and now has rolled out across all the other productions.

It used to be just an announcement that if you want to take photos or videos you could.

I would also debate that it is the reason it gained its 'hype'. In the US maybe, but not over here.

The show was doing well in London through word of mouth and great reviews, but it didn't take off big time and start selling out a month in advance here until after the Olivers and mostly the Britains Got Talent performances.

in general, US or otherwise, the show has gained hype due to the filmed megasix (and well.. Tim Tok). Not JUST because of that, but it’s definitely a big component

Yes I'm sure the 12 people that search for it on youtube each day had a much bigger impact on sales than the 9+ million viewers who saw them on Britain's got Talent...

WTF is a TimTok?

I think it was a typo or autocorrect for TikTok, which is an online social media app with a decent sized Broadway side (or at least people who hear the songs, not knowing what they're from).  A part of "Don't Lose Ur Head" is popular as background music for videos made on TikTok, as is "The Whole Being Dead Thing" from Beetlejuice and "Big Fun" from Heathers.  It might not seem like a huge deal, but my chorus class is trying to decide which Broadway show to see for their annual trip to the city, and this was an ACTUAL CONVERSATION between two kids in the class (let's call them Catherine and Anna, for theming purposes):

Catherine: Oh, we've gotta go see Six!

(Some of the class agrees with her)

Anna: What's Six?

Catherine: Oh, it's the TikTok show.  It's - "I'll think about it, maybe - XO, baby -"

Anna: Oh, yeah, we HAVE to see that show.

(I think I was the only person who suggested we see Flying Over Sunset.)

They’re being an ass. It was obviously a typo.

Anyway.. you’re acting like I’m bashing the show lmao. It’s one of my top 5 of all time, it’s not like I said anything bad.

Sorry I didn’t mean to come off like I was bashing you, I wasn’t! I was just pointing out the difference in the way the show is now compared to what it was when it first opened & that it didn’t really take off huge here until after the BGT performance.

The UK show itself is much slicker now compared to when it first opened. It’s More one brand’ and has better choreography, some of the jokes are moved around and smoothed over and I’m sure that is because of all the changes that came out of doing the US version.

im sure social media played a big part especially in the US (I honesty don’t know what a TikTok/TimTok is...I’m nearly 50 ffs) but it really didn’t seem to do that much for them here in the UK beyond its original fandom until it’s big tv performances.

My only concern with this is that if they allow it, people will think it's the norm at all Broadway shows. I think it was smart when they decided to not allow people to do it. There's enough out there, and I understand it's not the same actors for all of them, but still. It's not their ONLY marketing tool. If they specifically say it's okay, people should be aware that it's specific to THIS show, not ALL shows (and spare me the lecture about how 'we know how you feel about recording'.)

So by saying that six is a concert not a musical even though it is a musical based around a concert then are you also saying the school of rock isn’t a musical because it is based around the battle of the bands, a rock concert
