Rebel Wilson - Broadway? |
Well she doesn’t sing well. We’ve never seen her dancing so can only imagine how she’d do and her acting leaves a lot to be desired. Her run in GUYS AND DOLLS in the West End wasn’t exactly a huge success so who knows what she’s thinking. Perhaps a musical where the protagonist finds themselves trapped in a musical despite not being musically inclined?

This made me LOL out loud!
Maybe she was approached to cover Ryann Redmond's leave? Can't imagine anything else on Broadway she would be suitable for.

I’m actually not mad at that premise for a show.
I saw her as Ursula at the Hollywood Bowl and was immensely disappointed. I don't think she has the chops for live theatre. Of course, that doesn't preclude stunt casting.

Nope x
Character-wise (not necessarily singing-wise), I could see her in Leslie Kritzer's role in Beetlejuice, Sarah Stiles' role in Tootsie, or Ado Annie in Oklahoma. All of which are closing, I realize. I'm just speaking theoretically.
I went to see her in Guys and Dolls in London. The show had been struggling to sell, but with Rebel in the cast it started selling well at full price again. I thought she was really good - certainly got the laughs!
I'm tired of her shtick. She's not funny and she can't sing or dance well. I'm all for giving people chances but she is going to HAVE to move on from what she does in every roll.

It's interesting to me that in the same short thread, we have someone saying that she HAS TO expand her horizons, and also people implying that she CAN'T CONCEIVABLY expand her horizons.

There actually is a regional musical with that premise - it’s called The Guy who Didn’t Like Musicals. Here’s the link:

Also, wasn’t there just a movie that Rebel Wilson was in that had this same premise? (Edit: I just found the movie - it’s called Isn’t It Romantic, and it’s about her being trapped in a romantic comedy, not a musical.)
Wasn't she supposed to a McDonagh play in Sydney right around now, but ended up backing out for whatever reason?

There’s quite a few musicals out there with that premise. It isn’t anything new.
