Rebel Wilson said during her interview with Richard Ridge that she was supposed to workshop a musical that was supposed to be coming to Broadway but it fell through.. Does anybody have insight as to what show that was? She also mentioned that a director approached her to replace in a currently running show, any ideas for that?

She mentioned that she is specifically interested in originating a role, does anybody have thoughts as to what shows coming to Broadway she would be good for? Either Revivals/Originals.

Well she doesn’t sing well. We’ve never seen her dancing so can only imagine how she’d do and her acting leaves a lot to be desired. Her run in GUYS AND DOLLS in the West End wasn’t exactly a huge success so who knows what she’s thinking. Perhaps a musical where the protagonist finds themselves trapped in a musical despite not being musically inclined?

Maybe she was approached to cover Ryann Redmond's leave?  Can't imagine anything else on Broadway she would be suitable for. cheeky

She was absolutely horrible in Cats but that’s not saying much.

I’m actually not mad at that premise for a show.

I saw her as Ursula at the Hollywood Bowl and was immensely disappointed. I don't think she has the chops for live theatre. Of course, that doesn't preclude stunt casting.

Jimmy, what are you doing here in the middle of the night? It's almost 9 PM!

I haven’t seen Mean Girls, but my first thought was maybe there’s a role in there they may have considered her for?

The only other role in a currently running show I could even conceivably imagine her being considered for is one of the supporting actress roles in Waitress.

Character-wise (not necessarily singing-wise), I could see her in Leslie Kritzer's role in Beetlejuice, Sarah Stiles' role in Tootsie, or Ado Annie in Oklahoma. All of which are closing, I realize. I'm just speaking theoretically.

I went to see her in Guys and Dolls in London. The show had been struggling to sell, but with Rebel in the cast it started selling well at full price again. I thought she was really good - certainly got the laughs!

I'm tired of her shtick.  She's not funny and she can't sing or dance well.  I'm all for giving people chances but she is going to HAVE to move on from what she does in every roll.

It's interesting to me that in the same short thread, we have someone saying that she HAS TO expand her horizons, and also people implying that she CAN'T CONCEIVABLY expand her horizons.

"

There actually is a regional musical with that premise - it’s called The Guy who Didn’t Like Musicals.  Here’s the link:

Also, wasn’t there just a movie that Rebel Wilson was in that had this same premise? (Edit: I just found the movie - it’s called Isn’t It Romantic, and it’s about her being trapped in a romantic comedy, not a musical.)

Wasn't she supposed to a McDonagh play in Sydney right around now, but ended up backing out for whatever reason?

Yes she was! I just saw it and it definitely would have broke new ground for her. However, the show ended up working really well with Yael Stone (from Orange is the new Black) and it’s hard to imagine Rebel Wilson in the role. Part of me wonders whether she actually read the script and then backed out realising it would require genuine acting chops.

There was so much lacking in Rose and that's why she had to prove herself through her children. [interviewer]In ways that reminded you of your mom?[/interviewer]. Let's just say the role was very interesting for me. That one was the most interesting [I've ever played]" - Bernadette Peters (2018)

There’s quite a few musicals out there with that premise. It isn’t anything new.
